puttin and knocking sound

car: 1988 Camaro RS 2.8L v6

for like the last month i have herd a puttin sound like pst pst pst pst during idle and while driving and goes away after like 50 i guess i just cant hear it then comes back after i slow down well its not really a knocking sound just unusal sound coming from the passenger side and now for about a week the service engine light comes on after driving it for about 10mins everytime i think it might be a hole in the exhust tube near the engine... just wondering if anyone had any clues on what it could be.... because i don't like going to shops i like fixing the problem my self but i might have to go just to see what may be causing this

I don't think the hole causes the SES light to come on. Why don't you get the code from the ECM so we know what we might be looking at?

How about trying to post in the V6 forum too? Maybe someone has the same experience as you.

Sounds like an exhaust leak...the light may be due to an O2 sensor picking up the leak.

Yea check the header/manifold gaskets and put your hand close to it and see if you can feel any exhaust. Code could be your EGR Valve (32) which seems to go off the most.
