Power Steering Pump compatability???

Is the power steering pump on an 84 Camaro (V8) the same as a power steering pump on a 83 Trans Am (V8)??? I'm assuming it is. Does anyone know where I can get a pump for cheap? I am looking on ebay right now and I see one for $15.00 + 12 shipping...

Re: Power Steering Pump compatability???

I beleive it is, but don't assume for sure. Sometime in the early 80s GM went from SAE to "Metric" power sterring pumps. The hose connections are totally different between the two. The old SAE pumps use 37* single flare compression fittings on the pump and steering box. Later Metric pumps used double-flared compression fittings with an o-ring on both the pump and steering box.

I had to deal with this when I put a high-ratio steering box from an 88 WS-6 Trans Am into my 1978 Malibu. I had to swap in the 88 Metric pump along with the later Trans Am steering box and hoses.
