power hatch

officially one of the stupidest inventions ever made up for cars. the two main problems being:
1. if your not standing right there when you pop the hatch it opens then closes. gee wasnt that helpful

2. the idea is so that you dont have to slam your hatch down. the only problem is that people who dont realize you have a power hatch slam it down in a seemingly relentless attempt at breaking it

i was wondering if anyone has had issues with theirs being a pain in the hatch (<----my attempt at being funny). i was also wondering if its worth bothering trying to take it out and how major of a job it would be to replace it with a normal hatch

If the hatch closes right after you open it, by itself, you need to adjust it, cause it aitn working right. these parts are known to fail and be a pain. Do a search, someone in 3rd gen tech knows where to get them for 40 bucks or something along those lines, and thats a steal,

Hatch struts may be shot, thats why its not opening and staying in the closed position.

yeah the problem is its opening and then as soon as it opens the motor grabs it and closes it. but yeah the hatch struts are shot i have new ones i just have to toss them on but that would make sense as to why that happens. hopefully the new struts will be strong enough to fight my gay motor. i just think these things have to be one of the worst inventions ever.

That is the way the Hatch works, the motor releases it and the struts lift it clear. If it stay in contact with the sensor for the motor sure it will cliose, its meant to work that way. Nothing wrong with the systyem that the new struts won't correct.

Replace the switch. And what do you mean you don't have a key for the hatch??? Its the same one you use to unlock the doors. Or you don't lock the car, No key.

Yea all the locks were F'ed up when I got the car so I put new ones in. I bought one for the hatch too but I never put it in because I always just used the switch in the car. Now I dont know what did with the kit for it.

The entire assembly on my 89 does not rise as they used to in my 86.... I need a new motor because I really have to slam mine to get it to engage. My 86 worked perfectly, but sadly the parts were destroyed in the accident.... So I will need new parts. But hatch struts are a must, as well as hood struts. That was the first thing I did to both my 3rd gens

Angry

this system is so gay its such a pain in the puckered ahole. there should be a way to manualy lock it down if your motor does quit. but the rear arms are quite expensive but a breeze to install and its worth it so you dont have to keep dropping that hatch on your skull like i did for 3 months
