is this posible???
I have an 84 Camaro sport coupe and It has the 3 three red idiot lights in the dash....I was wonnering if I could swap them out and put in the opinional guages. Do they just plug in or do you have to change/alter the wiring harness???

The guage will either be all the way on (or to wherever the voltage brings the needle) or all the way off if you do so. The lights are either no voltage are full voltage, so that's all you get if you simply plug in a guage.
On another note, I thought firebirds had battery guages. Since they must not or you wouldn't be asking, just run the guage across the 12V and ground of the ignition. (that is an oversimplified explaination/ a real mechanic will explain it).

Well, first off anything is possible. LOL. I would start off by finding the diagrams of the instrument cluster for a car with gauges and one with idiot lights. Check and see if the wires are in the same place. IF they are in the same place it may be as simple as changing the actual sensors to the ones for the gauges and keeping the same wiring. If they are in different spots you will end up having to repin.
If you can find the diagrams it isnt all that hard to do the actual repining. The hardest part is to figure out what needs to go where. I went to the library and they had the diagrams on alldata on the computer for my 85. I converted from a cable driven 85 mph speedo in my 85 t/a to a electronic 140 speedo cluster out of a 89 GTA. When I started I was under the impression that all the wires were the same except I had to add the 3 for the speedo. Well that was wrong. I ended up having to repin it all to make it work. Here is a thread from when I was working on that. http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...hreadid=171533 It shows a bit of how I worked it out. Basically what I did is about the worst case scenario for what you will have to do but you will have to find the diagrams to see if they are different or not.
