thats what i did, and when i go to the drag stripp i take out the filters just for better airflow.

 

louvers where originally meant for heat dissipation not air intake. The top of the hood has holes vented so hot air can pass out of them... simple heat rises theory. To get cold air you would want like a 88 tpi cold air setup where it pulls in air from in front of the radiator.
