I am thinking about getting a 1990 Iroc z 350 TPI... I took it to my mechanic today for a quick rundown... he told me everything that was wrong with it that he could see...
First, there was a small pool of oil on the intake, and he doesnt know where it came from...
Second, the wires look like the were chewed up by some sort of rat or rodent...
Third, i forget exactly what he said.. some sort of "Arms" under the car were Bowed and they were suposed to be straight... so he thinks it was hit from behind...

Are these problems serious? The guy is asking 2500, and I got him down to 2200 the lowest.. should I do it? Are these problems even worth fixing? Will it drive fine without it? I need some advice for a newbie. Thanks guys I appreciate it...

 

idler arms? i bent mine while hitting a pole, about 75$ canadain to replace one of them

 

May be the lower control arms in the rear? Those aren't too bad to replace, and it's generally recommended for traction reasons.

 

Coulb be the torque arm he was talking about.

 

i was gonna say control arm but anyone else could be right, the only thing you can do to be sure your not getting ripped is get another estimate from a different garage.

 

Im pretty sure it wasnt the idler, torque, or control arms... i wish i could remeber... they are like small rods in the back of the car, its hard to explain... o well... aside from that...

What about the mysterious oil puddle and the chewed wires?

 

deffffffff,not worth the hassle, think here on my level, what else inside the engine, trans and rear are waiting to jump out and bite your throat and cost you money, 2200 is wayyyyyyy to much car is worth about 500bucks, look at my car i didnt even pay 2000, if you hold off youll find something great, especially for 2500 you can get a nice iroc, keep looking i have a feeling this one has problems, plus bad paint like you where saying, i can see your tranny slipping yikes, tell this guy 500 if he says no laugh at him and leave.
