Post Oil pressure question.

I have a 88 SC 305 TBI (check sig). Anyways when the car is started the oil pressure jumps right up to ~45psi. After the car warms up its immediantly goes to ~30psi even at WOT. Then while idling the oil pressure goes way down to ~10. If I drive the car for a couple hours sometimes it will stall while idling. I think because of the oil pressure. Is my oil pump dieing? Bearings about to become toast?

305 TBI, Edelbrock TBI performer intake, hooker headers, no emmissions or AC , flowmaster series 80, k&n open element, 20% tint all around, 16x8 TT II's wrapped in Z rated dunlops. She looks great but is to slow. Looking for a unmolested 94-95 Z

You need to check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to be sure you don't have a bad sender. Do this before changing anything then proceed according to those results.

Cool

I was gonna say the same thing. GM is not known for its fantastic guages. They are very unreliable. I wouldn't trust that sending unit. I went through a similar situation with my '83 Berlinetta. So far, my '84 Z28 has been a little better, but even its guages are a little wacky and tend to move around of their own free will and whim! Have it checked to be safe.

Yeah gm gauges suck ***. My oil pressure is always maxed out and if it isn't then something is wrong. My fuel gauge likes to say empty (drivin with it on empty for days) My speedo has gone crazy in the wintertime before (I think the grease gelled and caused the cable to stop then spin really fast) Basically I am giong to be fixing them all over the next few years.

My gas gauge is all crazy too. I think I messed it up changing the fuel pump tho. It will read fine until 1/2 tank then it stops. If i drive like that i know when i need gas because when i take a turn it will try to die LOL. I usually just keep it full unless im broke....well I was thinking about getting a guage pillar for a new oil pressure and tranny temp guage (i have a tranny cooler)
