Oil keeps leaking from oil filter
I swear I have put in about 3 new oil filters since I had my reman long block put in a couple of years ago and everytime, they eventually start leaking. Is it possible that the surface that the oil filter mates with is warped on the block causing this continuing leakage?? I tighten the filter up properly by dipping my finger in oil and rubbing it on the oil filter gasket and then hand tighten it and then turn it one turn after that. Any ideas? I really hope the surface isn't warped cause If that's the case, I don't think there's much I can do cause I know I can't just put gasket sealant in there, or can I??
No you had best not put sealant there. I doubt that area is warped. Next time you have the filter off, check if there is an old gasket there. Also try another brand of filter. The most important thing to do is to make sure that is where the oil is coming from. Clean the area extremely well and add some dye into the oil and use a blacklight every other day to check.
It could be the oil cooler or there could be something obstructing the gasket. Next time you take it off wipe a clean cloth along where the gasket sits. Make sure there is no leak point higher then that too. I know on my old T/A it was always leaking off the filter. I did make suer there wasn't a gasket and eventually I wiped the filter surface clean and it stopped leaking.
