O2 problem

i'm having a major problem with my car running rich and slightly lean. i replaced a new o2 that wasn't acting right with another new one and it worked great for one day but now it's acting like the old one and not reading very much.

the O2 itself is very clean which is evident of a lean condition yet the car only seems to have problems when moving from a dead stop at a traffic light or when at a cruise speed like 50. what would this be evident of?

is it possible that my exhaust is to large and the O2 isn't heating up properly? would a 3 wire O2 be my solution??

any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I run a heated O2 just on principle. It heats up faster and maintains accuracy better.

Single-wire O2's will cool off if the car idles for a few minutes...I suppose low-load part-throttle operation could have the same effect. I'd put in a heated sensor and see if it helps.

two questions one how big is your exhaust? (although i doubt thats the problem)
and two do the problems go away after driving for oh id say anywhere from 5-15 minutes?

get your timing checked asap,

i had this problem this week as well, my gas milage sucked as the car was spitting too much gas, it heated my exhaust manifold till they turned blue and leaked, backfiring and hesitation etc... try running it without the o2 sensor in, the computer will use factory default settings

I like the generic Bosch 4-wire heated O2's. You can get them from any given parts store, and since they have an independent ground you don't have to worry about conductivity issues with anti-seize or anything. They have 2 white wires, a black wire, and a gray wire. The gray and one of the whites should be tied together and grounded, the other white takes ignition power (+12v when the key is in "run",) and the black is the signal wire.

well i pulled the o2 and it ran great.....still the richness problem however none of the hesitation with the o2. so i used a 3 wire heated O2 and hooked it up. solved my problems and helped stop some of the fuel dumping....

now i think most of my fuel problems are in the chip since i have replaced just about everything possible. i'm going to give TPIS one more try to burn my chip and if they don't i'm going DFI.

thanks guys!!

still you should get your timing checked,
it may be a really cheap fix to the problem

it nearly doubled my gas milage, its even better than when i first got the car a year ago, and it restored the power i forgot the car had

Is there any real difference in O2 sensors? (IE if it screws in, will it work?)

yes there are differences. not so much in say a single wire application that is the right size but beyond that with the differences between heated/non, etc.
