Post No/Low Oil Pressure ?/

I have a 1992 305 TBI Firebird with about 117k on it.

I honestly can't say that I have paid much attention
to my oil pressure guage as of late. But I noticed that
my check engine light is on today and the pressure is
reading 0 at idle and still in the red while accelerating.
I know it was fine last weekend (the last time I remember
checking)

I thought it might be related to the new chip I put in so I swapped
back to stock ... no help.

Any suggestions?

I'm going to change the oil and filter tomorrow anyhow, I hope
it's just a clogged filter or something equally stupid.

AFAIK, the chip has no effect on the oil pressrure. If you engine is making a racket then you have low pressure. If not, I would ground out the sensor and see if it goes to the max pressure. If it does, it is probably a bad sender. If not, probably a bad gauge.

Cool

Probably is a coincidence...I know that I replaced 2 oil pressure senders in my 91 TBI 305 before I swapped it out for the 355. They kept blowing the diaphragm out and leaking oil through the sender...very annoying when you're cruising along at 80 and suddenly realize you're reading no oil pressure.

Maybe you noticed it at the time you did the install. I checked the wiring diagram and can find no link.

What error code did you have? It should be stored in the ECM

Where did you get this chip? You can't put it in wrong because there are nubs on the edge which will not allow you to insert it in the wrong way unless you mash it in. Your prom may be faulty or just plain wrong. I have got those from ASM many years ago where they worked but triggered a code which might be 51. Not sure. After that, I went to Lingenfelter's and they did a true custom prom for me. Another place that is just as good is www.fasterproms.com and they do a true custom chip. Burn to your specs and have you take readings and reburn till it is just perfect. Takes about 3 burns to be just in. Cost is $500 for the first chip and later on if you make major mods and need a reburn, it is $150

Actually, it's a 92 305 and you can put it in backwards. The little plastic case you put the chip into accepts it either way.

Hmmm. My 91 accepts it only 1 way. What happened when you reversed it?

When I put it in with the notch (Pin 1) facing the (1) and large notch on the platic carrier (facing the middle of the ECM) the Check Engine light flashes rapidly and the car runs like crap.

When I turn it around, the car runs a little better but the check engine light stays on solid and throws a code 51. (Bad PROM)

I need to figure out which way is the right way before I install a new chip.

I think this is the wrong chip for the car. Where did you get it?

It was in a 91 Camaro 305 TBI Auto. I'm going to try my stock chip and see if I can make it work
