New steering wheel...air bag ??

I am getting a new steering wheel but i am afraid to change it because i dunno if the airbag is gonna blow up in my face. I don't even know if the airbag is still in it. but if there is , how should i aproach this, without getting the **** scared out of me if the airbag blows.
thanks!

There should be a fuse and/or relay you can pull that coincides with the airbag. Make sure to disconnect your battery also. Also try and remove the bag sitting in the passenger seat just in case.

Is there one in the passenger seat for the 3rd Gens? Mine (91) didn't have it. In any case, get a Chilton book and they will tell you how to.

removing all the power connections is the best bet....i know when i replaced my wheel i was pretty much laying as low as possible to avoid an accident. everything went smoothly but you never know.

You could remove the battery but the DERM still has enough charge in the capacitors to fire the airbag. This is in case you have a crash which damages the battery and have a second crash in the same accident.

Once all the connections are disconnected and you pop the actual bag off (the middle part that says "Camaro") you'll see the bag material. First check if on your dash the light lights up that says something like INFLRST, if so it means there's no bag or it was installed incorrectly. Good luck don't let her blow on you!
