This is a question out of curiosity. I just ordered some aluminum American Racing Outlaw 2 rims. They are 15", same as my stock 15" firebird rims from 1989. Is there any weight difference? If so, would it make any difference at all?

 

they might be a few pounds lighter,but thats prob. about it...besides the fact that they are gonna look better lol.

 

I was told that the weight of the rims is important because of centrifical forces and such. Is any of that true?

I think the rims weigh about 15 pounds each.

 

The bigger the wheel, the more difference weight makes. The formula for centrifigul force involves multiplying by the radius, therefore the bigger the radius, the more centrifigul force, given the wheels have identical weight.--I think that's all right.

The amount of weight saving won't make much of a difference. I highly douibt you will be able to feel it. Seeing you got stock sized wheels, handling won't be affected. All that leaves is straight line difference, which I doubt you'll see by the couple pounds saved. Braking MAY be effected--less rotating mass to slow down.

weight makes a huge difference in accel and decel. the fact your running such a small rim probably means your running a tall sidewall tire which will make your cornering worse then say a 16 or 17.

whenever you are talking about rotating mass it makes all the difference in the world. just put 5lbs on a 2' string and swing it around. now do it with 20lbs and see how much more work it is. this is why people spend the big dollars on light weight racing wheels and light driveshafts and flywheels.

in your situation though i don't think you'll notice it though, however if you were to put a larger motor in then you would.
