new 3rdgen in my future

I know I havent been here in a long time, but I kinda havent had much to talk about till now. this week when the loan comes through (for multiple purposes) , I'm buying an 86 camaro the body looks crummy . i mean there are no dents but the paint is a bit powdery and a tad bit rusted. but the engine seems very strong with pozzy trac and O/D with electric windows and locks.

where I need you guys is even thoughthe motor seems like it has alotta strength and yeah i will rebuild.. I'm having trouble believing that a vin code "H" is a Z28 someone let me know what you know.. if links are legit leave me one or two

I will get pictures up very soon... and tehre is no way im going to stay with red and gold paint !

thought the 'h' symboled the 5.0L engine
so it could be a z28

it would depend to me on how bad the rust is. where u can see it,chances are its alot worse underneath. 1,000 is cheap tho, especially if it passes inspection (most things that pass inspection are worth about 1500). take a look under the car and look at places like near the end of the fenders/begining of the door, around the rearend and panhard bar.

rust is a terrible and expensive thing to track down and fix...unless u own a body shop i guess.

VIN H: LG4

VIN G: L69 (H.O.)

Both are Z28's

The paint jobs through 86' were crappy from GM because they had recently switched from oil based paints to water based paints and they were still trying to get the procedure mastered. Same thing happened with my 84' L69.

You can always get a new paint job down the road.

added deatail

see from the book i have, it shows the h motor as having the least bit of H/P of all v8s they produced for camaro for that year.I was just assuming that in that case it would have to be a RS with z stickers and ground effect package, I guess i will have a better idea when the title is in my hands... only if it says what it is.

I have an 86 Camaro and my engine code is also an "H" in the vin. But my car is a Sport Coupe as denoted by the "FP" in my vin. I have, according to the vin, an LG4 5.0L V8 4BBL and my car is not an RS or Z as far as I know. So perhaps the car you are looking at is in the same boat as mine. I guess it depends on the suspension and other things. It is all very confusing, haha!

It was actually the cars that came from the plant in california that had the crappy paint because of california emmissions laws.

Emissions affecting paint? Explain. Just curious.

I wouldn't give the guy $1k for it. It's a 305 Auto car that needs work. I'd look around for a beat up 350 car. Heck I got my Trans Am GTA with an L98 for less than $1k.

Offer $500 and if he bites, take it. Dropping in the 330 hp 350 crate would be a good choice as it is just slightly over 2 grand. You would not believe how good a Maaco paint job can be if you do the prep work on it yourself.

I'd reccomend not going with it because it is an LG4.

You might be shocked what a cam, heads, intake and headers would do for an LG-4
