Need some advice bad...
Hey, I've got an '89 Firebird Formula 350 TPI, 5.7L with the WS6 package, and I need some advice. Right now I'm working on restoring the interior, but I need to make it as fast as it can be real cheap-like. It's already got the Performance chip (wow...), a K&N filter (yet again, wow...), a B&M shift kit, a local exhaust jobby with a cheap muffler and duals (not true duals), and the car came factory with 3.42s. I'm going to put headers on it soon, but what else should I do to decrease my times at the strip? I'd like to avoid computer work, but if there's no other way then I don't have a choice. I need to know how to get the most bang for my buck outta the old 'bird. Any reply at all would be helpful. And do the dual cats really matter? Because it's still got 'em and right now I'm dragging on everything and I'd love to cut those babies off and re-run my exhaust.

The best and cheapest mods arethe following in no particular order:
1) Advance base timing to 10* advanced.
2) Clean the throttle body and plenum thoroughly with carb cleaner thats O2 sensor safe.
3) Replace the O2 sensor, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter (or maintain the K&N if applicable).
4) Open up the airbox by cutting holes in it if thats not already been done.
5) Get a 2500 stall speed converter.
6) get sticky DOT legal tires for the back.
7) Get headers and a full 3" cat back exhaust system with a good hi flow muffler.
8) Do cam and heads and intake mods.
9) Burn new EPROM.
10) Install subframe connectors
11) Install boxed lower control arms.
12) Lighten the car. Remove back seat, spare tire and jack, etc.
Hope this helps some. With a little work that car should be in the 13's with little basic mods.
