Need help quick
Alright here is the problem. I am done rebuliding my 2.8L. I had to use the heads from a 1988 s-10 truck. The hole on the back of the passenger side head has a plug in it. this is where the fan switch goes. It is a round plug with a square hole just like the rearend plug but the hole is smaller than a 3/8 and bigger than a 1/4. What size is it and where can i buy the tool i need to get it out. I have tried AutoZone and Advance Auto, they have nothing and drilling it out is not an option. This is the only thing keeping me from setting my engine in. Thanks

It's a square head right? Then you need somthing like this.

Re: Need help quick
Okay since these sets are so much, and i need it for a one time use only how about i take one of my 3/8 extensions and grind it down to fit? That should do the trick right?

Re: Need help quick
What I did to get the plug out was I took a large allen wrench and then I ground ed it square. Worked great. That or you could try the harware store and look for a socket(s) that is designed to remove pipe plugs, similar to those sold in the ebay link.
Re: Need help quick
If you can figure out what size you need you can probably get just that one from some sight online (sears, ebay, snapon, mac, etc), also did you look around on eBay, their might be cheaper sets than that. I think those plugs are notorious for rounding off too so you might need to heat it.
Re: Need help quick
Well last night i tried to make one by grinding an extension down and everytime i tried to trun it, it would either break the extension or pop out, and i am tearing the plug up. So what i want to know since this a 1988 s-10 motor is did it have an electic fan. Because on the side where the fan switch goes on the camaro engine in the head, there is a similar looking switch but it is bigger and goes into the block. Any idea on what this is?

Re: Need help quick
I think if i have to i will buy the hayden 3652 and install a new temp switch in the radiator with turn on at 185 and off at 170. My only concren is i have a t-stat that is a 180, how would this effect the engine? But what if i put the switch in the bottom of the rad instead of the top, the coolant at the top is hotter than on the bottom and it may be what i need to do, cause this plug is aggervating. What do yall think?

Re: Need help quick
You should have gotten the right socket and heated the plug up to remove it
Is the plug still salvagable or did you completly strip it? If it isn't rounded off just get the correct socket for it and I would heat it up (be carefully of fuel lines) just to ensure it doesn't get any worse. If it is shot then you can weld a bolt to it and get it out that way.
