Angry Name The Problem

I have a 87 IROC with a 700R4 and when i put it in 1st gear and get the lanch and then i go to shift to 2nd it shifts out at 6000 or so but then 2nd to 3rd is at 5500 what is the problem. Some one said that it was the trans sliping and if that is the problem what do i need to do to fix this problem.

6000 is VERY hgih for a factory TPI setup. With a StealthRam or something it would be pretty reasonable.

does the hypertech chip not increase redline and shift points?

if its shifting that high when you dont have it at wot it may be a timing problem

If you have a stock TPI setup on your car readjust the TV cable to have it shift at about 5000RPM WOT. The stock TPI cars do not make any power over about 4800-5000 Rpm, so taking it 6000 isnt doing it any good.

Kevin 2.8, The hypertech chip does nothing more than raise the timing a few degrees, set the torque converter lock up a little higher MPH and turn the fans on earlier. Nothing to do with the redline. Timing and shifting do not have anything to do with one another.
