My 383 stealth ram build

Figured I'd make a post here about my 383 build plans and how its progressing. I figure in another month it will be ready to start up...probly sooner tho we'll see tho

I'm building a 383 Stealth Ram combo that i hope will do mid 11's and dyno 400whp+

Setup consists of a fully forged shortblock from Golen Engine Service. Eagle crank/Hbeam rods, SRP flat tops for 11 to 1 compression.

4bolt main roller block, 1pc rms. painted it red

AFR 195 cc Eliminator heads with 8019 spring upgrade setup for 166lbs on the seat exhaust, 170 on intake.

Cam is a BRE custom grind from Bret Bauer. specs are 230/245 .603/.613 109+1 LSA

Holley stealth ram sitting on top thats been mildly ported by myself. 37lb injectors will most likely sit on the rails

1 3/4" longtubes into true dual 3inch exhaust more the likely, i havent finalized that part yet

Canton 6qt road race pan

Restalling the Edge Racing Converter i had to 3600 i think

That about all sums up the major stuff. here are some build pics. Updated as i go along

That's a 10 second combo all day when you get it tuned, hooking, and in a 3200-3300lb car.

I think so anyways!! Tell Edge that you won't cry if it's 3800-4000 after the re-stall...It should like it! Don't be stingy, especially if you don't plan on spraying it.

I hope the rest of the drivetrain is ready for it. Looks good!

well later in the year i wanted to add a 150-200 shot depending. I will want a 12 bolt rear first so spray may need to wait till much later

the car weighs 3470 lbs with me in it and the old L98 iron motor. AFR's are close to 50 lbs less weight. Not sure if the crank/rods/pistons are any heavier than stock tho

Either way the car should move out.

Converter should arive to edge racing this upcoming tuesday. I expect a call then or wednesday to set up the stall/STR ratings i want.

I thought 3800-4000 would be most optimal for the setup but this is a street/strip car so 3600 would be abit more friendly. As far as a STR ratio, i'm not sure what i want. Converter i had was build for a bolt on L98, mild 2800 stall with probly a low STR ratio for best street manners. i want this thing to hit tires pretty hard but not be that bad on the street

what kind of intake manifold is that? im starting a 383 myself 2 bolt main 1 piece rms out of a 98 gmc sierra with 3k on it.
just had it bored 30 over and stroke to 3.75..hot tanked and honed for a good price. ive been considering a stealth ram for a while and also looking at the FIRST TPI intake..much bigger than the stock TPI.. but anyway. did you buy your heads from afr or another distributer. love the color.. keep us posted

Its a Holley stealth ram. Mildly ported by myself. I could have finished it up more but it was a quick opening up type job just to make sure the ports were a better match to the heads.

The heads i got from ADperformance, a AFR distributor. I upgraded my springs tho thru AFR. Shipped them the 8017's and the sent me the 8019's at the upgrade cost.

Went to install the cam and found my cam retainer plate for my 89 block doesnt fit the new block. Apparently GM changed the bolt hole locations on 91-99 blocks so i ordered one.

Also ordered new longtubes from Hooker...JetHot coated and got new LS7 lifters for this motor

Once i get that cam in i can go about degreeing it and figuring out what pushrods i will need

Wow, sweet! Dang, you are making us all want to revisit our own engines with a new set of those eliminator heads and some more compression ratio! That sounds like a great combo.

they are suppose to be hot stuff and i plan to put down some good numbers. Will post them everywhere to show what the HSR and AFR heads are capable of. Should run strong, somewhere in the 11's for sure, but how fast i'm not sure at all

should beable to button up the motor this weekend and get it ready to install...still waiting on the headers and converter to ship to me. Got a base tune for it and gotta wire up the ignition box and should be ready to break in and tune.

Cam is in and i'm going to degree it tommorrow. First quick run thru of the process appears to me that the cam is retarded 2 degrees so i gotta double/triple check that reading before making change. if its straight up, i'm gonna leave it that way. Specs call for 1 degree advance. I'd rather have alittle top end over lowend since this should have more than enough lowend for me haha

Looks good. I have a 383 lt1 with a stealth ram on it. Still working the bugs out, but it did go 11.0s on motor in the few shakedown passes I made last season. Weather hasnt allowed me on the track yet this year. I like the intake colored the way you did it. been thinking of having mine powder coated.

When it went 11.0s I was on 245/243 dur @ 640 lift. I put a different cam in this year, little more duration and lift. The 11.0s were on 93 octane gas. It made 405 on Ed Wrights dyno on that setup. Yesterday with the new cam and race fuel I put down 475 rwhp on a mustang dyno. Hoping to be closer to mid 10s on motor. From the looks of it, you will have no troible gettin your mid 11s goal. I see it being a little faster than that.
