When did the Mini Ram change it's look? Used to be wider. It almost looks like a Ramjet now.

Which of these intakes would be best depends entirely on what cam/head package you're running. To make the Miniram intake payoff you need a nice set of heads and a pretty large cam so you can spin to at least the 6500 to 7000 RPM range. On a large cammed motor with stock or near stock heads an LT1 intake conversion might work nearly as well for less money. If you combine either of these short runner intakes with a mild cam and heads you will be misusing it and the midrange/lowend and especially the throttle response will fall off compared to the two other intakes you mentioned. That is acceptable when you have the cam/heads to trade low/mid for topend but would be a mismatch on a mild street type motor.

The Stealth Ram runner length increases the engine's volumetric efficiency in the 4500 to 6500 RPM range so combined with a healthy but not super aggressive cam it will probably produce more peak power and a wider peak than the LT1/miniram intakes. You really need a hot cam to turn enough RPM's for the short runner LT1 or Miniram intakes to produce the best power. The Super Ram boosts the VE in the 3 to 5K range and works well with moderate cams that produce peak power at say 6K or below.

If you're at all concerned with throttle response or midrange power the Super Ram will work best there followed by the Stealth Ram with the Miniram/LT1 intakes bringing up the rear.

Anyway, the numbers are rough generalizations but the point is that there is no single "best" intake. You get the best results by matching the intake to the RPM range where the rest of your engine package produces peak power.

Post some details on the cam and heads, rear end ratio and transmission you'll be using and people can give you some more specific info.

I'm running a HOT CAM W/1.6 roller rock., 64cc Vortec heads, 3.27 rear, rebuilt 700R4 to handle 450H.P. with lockup conv. 2200 stall. Bunch of other stuff in my signature also. I like the sound of the super ram. The mini ram from TPIS said they could drill the holes for vortec heads for $75 prior to shipping. I haven't asked Accel but the advertisment for the Super ram said will not fit Vortec. I'll call them Monday and see what they can do. Here is a link to my motor. I think the Super Ram would definitely work out best with your package. I know where a TPI base is for sale that was converted to work with Vortec heads, it was a TPIS big mouth. He wanted about $250 for it, PM me if you're interested and I can dig up his email address. If you went with the SuperRam you'd just need the plenum and runner set then.

Grammerman seems to have covered the bases. Personally I think the Superram is the way to go. Sure the MiniRam makes more HP.....above 5500 and up to 6500. Aside from that, the Superram is the king. But I don't want to rev that high. Superram doesn't lose torque. Also maintains the EGR setup. When LT1's were new, Lingenfelter would keep the LT1 setup for the manual cars but put the Superram setups on automatic cars.

Holley tends to have the best value to performance ratio.

I have no experience with Vortec setups.

 

SuperRam=more low-mid range power
HSR=more mid to upper range power
miniram=upper range power(more cubes, agressive cam, and some nice heads would do this setup alot more justice)

For your application the SuperRam would be a great choice...teh HSR is another great choice....its just cheaper.

 

The Holley stealth ram will get it DONE even on a 383 if your heads will flow with it'

 

Yes it will.....wonder how I know but I think its for a 350.

 

Depending on your heads it will work on either. It will still line up but ya may have to redrill the bolt holes. For an LT1 ya got to take it to somebody to get the flat part around the hole machined to the bolt head angle as the bolts are at a different angle than a SBC.

 

If the stealthram was out when I bought my miniram, I wouldn't have bought my miniram. Best hp for the dollar as far as TPI intakes go.
