cc306
cc306
I am finishing up a build on my bird.
Installing powder coated Stealth Ram, roller rockers 1.52,
3000 midwest converter, keeping my 3.7 9bolt rear. I have ported the heads,
had screw in studs installed, stainless valves (1.6 exhaust, tuliped)
I had a (flat)Nitrous HP 268h cam installed. but ran into a big problem, on initial fire up...
long story short, I am in the need for another cam....
The car is 70% street, and 30% strip/autox (only driven on weekends)
I have done some searches here and thirdgen.org
As my new research has turned up the (roller)cc306 cam looks like the winner
Do you guys and girls think this is a good choice?
basicly what do you guy's think....?
Those that have this cam how do you like it on the street and at the track?

Re: cc306
The cc306 is an awesome cam. I run it in my LT1 M6 with 3.73 gears. It is a bit of a slouch below 2500 rpm's but after that it is awesome. I am also running 1.6 rr so that compunds the problem a little. Other than that, just double check the rear and the torque convertor match the recommended specs of the cam and you will enjoy it.

It's really easy to get a lot of cam surge with it and the wrong timing will make it feel flat at WOT. But, with a little patience it will be worth it. If I had to do it again, I would propably have went with a cc503, guys seem to be putting up great times with that cam without having to risk the bottom end with all the RPM's the cc306 requires.
I bought the cam at summit, beginning of the year... it wasn't the cams fault.. the cam was off a about two teeth and the exhaust valves of number 1 and 6 both hit hard on the piston and must of cracked the end of the lifters on those cylinders... and I am sure the cam didn't fair to well with a nice broken lift riding around on it... I will have pics tomorrow... they are going on the oops wall in the shop... big mistake... but you'll have that.....

268H Nitrous HP
2400 to 6500
12-564-4 NX274H 274 292
230 244 .487 .501 113°
Didn't take any pics but I will, this cam is pretty FUBAR... the number one exhaust lobe is chewed up massivily...and a few others don't look good at all.... I try calling comp I don't this they will help much...but worth a try, I guess

Re: cc306
thats not a very radical cam, its a dash 4. like i said, if the cam is within a year from purchase date i think ya might be in good shape. as mentioned before just be honest with the warranty dept, that will get ya far. and when you send youer cam in send all 16 lifters as well.
Re: cc306
is this for a 350 and 70% daily driver...teh 230/236 is a nice cam but a bit extreme for a DD. For a 350...224/230 would give you more low end power, reliability and give a great power curve for DD.

Re: cc306
YenkoSt....
I know where you are coming from and have been thinking that...(hence the original cam)...
but I am pretty sure I have a line on a good deal, on a cc306... I will prep the rest of the motor for that cam, springs, retainers, locks... not to mention the head mods... rockers, converter, gears....
this is not really a DD by anymeans... it is my street legal, fun, adrienalin pumping, slight race car... I drag race almost weekly,(friday nights), I like to enter events at Norwalk Raceway (Ohio). I have cam in 4 place three time and i would really like to win at least one...lol....
I also autoX with my brothers SVO Mustang (2.3T) and my fathers corvettes... so
mayby 70% was a bit high... 30% of that is just going out and cruising for rice and stangs
and If I don't like it for some reason, stepping down one cam won't hurt anything at all...

Re: cc306
With your decision.....from your desciption of what you do...I think you made a good choice. From what you said...the 230/236 or cc306 would be a better choice for you since you more likely race 70% of the time and drive it 30%....hahaha....j/k.
Good luck with dealing with Comp cams......you could be on hold for a while with them but they are good about getting to you and helping you out.

Re: cc306
well as a follow up... comp's warrenty department gave me a RFA to send the cam back to them, and then they will figure out what to do to help me out... so far they are completely awesome...
I already bought another cam... lets see what they say...
