So you removed your Maf Screens with no problems, congratulations. But did you get any verifiable gains??

I did this while doing a cold air kit, plus a junk Hypertech. I did feel a SOTP diiference but not much. IT only takes a few minutes to do...

I doubt you will see any gains till you take it and another known good one to the track and compare. Besides, if you intakes are stock, gains will be minimal. I know someone who went 5 thousands slower after he installed the 58mm 1000 cfm Throttle Body on the stock motor.

Subject is changing when there is no defense for descreening a MAF.

I am not trying to change the subject at ll, nor defend descreening the MAF. I am simply just stating what I noticed on my particular setup. Thats my .02.

if nothing else its good for an extra 20 cfm or so... there have been people to flow stats on a MAF before and after removing the screens and they gained some CFM... i did mine just to get the cfm... no i couln't fell it in the SOMP... but who cares... every cfm helps in the grand scheme of things

Not really. Point I was trying to make is that when you descreen it, you lose nothing because the screens are supposed to stop stuff hitting the wires and/or going into the engine. If you have that problem, you don't have an air filter. Descreening it and removing the heat sinks helps you increase the air flow. However, if your engine cannot use it, it is worthless. The guy in the story removed one obstacle, the TB, however, the rest of the intakes are still restricting flow and hence all it did was disrupt the air flow and it showed in the runs he made.

Descreening it alone will not give you several HP which can only be measured on the dyno. Descreening it with intake modifications because you are running better heads, cam, intakes, will give you some benifit.

If you are thinking that descreening and porting out the MAF ALONE will give you something, it might be a long night and you are right, it is a myth. I do believe that if you have a larger motor, better intakes and cam, it will help slightly.

wether it did anything or not,I did it to my 86 T/A.Car ran fine no troubles. The Camaro I have now is speed density so no trobles there either.I did it to my Mustang also.Once again no trobles there either. It might not add a whole lot but remeber all of those little things eventually add up and that my friend is what we are all after.

I descreened mine and noticed serious SOTP difference, but hey, I'm just me and maybe your car is different. I would highly recommend it, it's been out for 20k miles now and it still runs good. Soon I'll probably grind down the heat fins, maybe.

Everyone has their own theroy weather this mod is beneficial, IMO i will not risk $200-300 and my car running like crap for such a small (if any) HP gain.
