Talking LT1/T56 swap-the best?

who makes the necessary brackets for the 700 r4 to t56 swap?-also-i'm planning on yanking the engine and rebuilding, but i love the way my friends 97 anniv. SS drives(its for sale if anybody's interested---TPIS long tubes, borla cat back,B+N short throw shifter, just needs a few things)anyhow---is it really worth rebuilding the tired old L98,regardless i want to do the 6 speed.so i might as well do it at the same time, does anybody make a simple wiring harness?-also ...what else should i pick up at the boneyard?how much should a low mi LT1 or possible LS1 cost?the tranny?-ready to make a change.....for the faster..haha.

Just do a search here or at thirdgen.org and you will find plenty of info on the swap. I think Steve Spohn makes a crossmember but am not positive to use the t56 in a 3rd gen. Low mile LT1 should cost about 1000 without the tranny. Better deals can be found this just seems to be the average. Plan on about 1500-2000 to do the tranny swap. I looked into it and decided just to keep my 700-R4 after I saw how much it would cost.

I've done it...and I love it!!

Check out my site and e-mail me if you have any questions. If I were you I would get a Howell wiring harness. TPIS sells them and they are VERY willing/able to help you out.

Good luck!

I paid roughly $800 from a junk yard for a '94 Vette Lt1 and about $500 for a '93 Z28 T56. I did a lot of haggeling for both and a lot of searching. I had the trans gone over and just got it back. The shop cleaned it up and threw in a few new parts. Hopefully within a month I will be 'test' fitting the motor and trans in the car. Unfortunately, the holidays and work are not giving me enough time to get more work done. Also, I am changing a few other things around while I'm at the swap. Anyone wanna buy me a SSBC 1le brake setup for Christmas ? Anyway, good luck. Lt1pweredZ...gonna be in Chicago anytime soon...I could use a hand. J/K.

I'm sure I've seen some how-to's on the LT1 swap as well, if you search on www.thirdgen.org.

It's a very straight forward swap - no worries!

been reading the post and had wiring questions:

I bought an 95 impala ss lt1 motor(which the seller sold me the ecm):

Which wiring harness unit can I use? and how get the stock 87 gauages to work - would the painless wiring harness make the connection between the iroc and lt1? and what happens to the stock computer?

if someone could post a part number for the wirer harness that they used - that would be get.

thanks guys!

I haven't had a chance yet to start wiring in the Painless harness yet...I'm still working out other issues. But, I can email you the directions I got with my harness. It is the Painless Wiring Harness Part #60502/60505. This might help you.

It was rejected on your end because it is too large. It is 5.99megs zipped. If you have another email address you want to try, let me know.

I think that Painless is a joke. Really not worth it.

Howell is far superor to Painless in all catergories, IMO. No directions needed with a Howell harness.
