lt1 cam swap

I'm about to swap the cam in my car with one from an lt1 and was wondering exactly what all is involved. I've purchased the cam, springs, and rockers from someone that took them out of their 97 ss.
thanks,
Derrick

First off, is your 85 equipped with a roller cam engine? They didn't come out on Camaros until 1987, thus my question. If not, you will have to purchase special lifters to use in your old-style block.

An LT1 cam is a good choice for a 305

Yeah before 87 they all had hydraulic flat tappet cams. You can't just throw a roller cam in your 85 engine because it needs a few things to work properly. Thrust plate, cam button, ROLLER lifters which aren't cheap... It would definately be cheaper to buy a cam kit from comp cams for your 85 application. An entire kit would probably in the in the 200-300 range, with the cam, lube, lifters, springs, timing chain, retainers, locks, seals.... Call up Competition Cams and have a chat with a tech guy about what you have and want to do. Or check out their website and look at the TPI specific cams or just the lower duration flat tappet cams. www.compcams.

Look here for some suitable cams i seen on their site. http://www.compcams.com/catalog/082_083.html

Part number 12-402-4 looks good and the 12-314-4 above it also would work. Look at some of Crane Cam's CompuCam grinds. Some people like those. Goodluck
