Automatic Transmission Shifting Problem

I am leaving my friends house, I try to shift it in reverse and it won't go. I am stuck at either Overdrive or neutral. The button on the shifter also has no resistance like it did before. I pulled off the button and the white chain is broken (a small part came out). Can I get those white plastic chains easily? Is it hard to fix? How much? Please help me, I can't put my car in reverse or take my keys out because it has to eb in park to do so. Thanks.

You should be able to get that part from the dealer, but you won't find it anywhere else. In the meantime, it's possible to eliminate the button mechanism altogether by simply removing the lever that it attaches to on the shifter base. You'll have to be careful about putting it in gear, because it will just sort of click in place instead of locking in, but it'll be driveable.

I really appreciate you always helping me. Thanks so much. I know so little about cars. I know more about guitars.

It's no problem at all.
