Would a cam from an LT1 Corvette be too much for my 86 camaro? The motor is stock. Thanks!

 

the LT1 is a roller cam that requires a cam retainer in the front and and uses a distributor drive in the front and your engine uses a rear drive distributor. but if it would fit it would run great.

it has the distributor gear drive on the cam. but your 86 is a non-roller block. you would need to spend about $600 to convert it so you can use it.

 

The motor would need to come out of the car too, it would need to be drilled and tapped for the lifter retainers. www.sdpc2000.com has a cheap kit with roller lifters, the lifter retainer and all the bolts and what not for around $200.

 

no it wouldn't need to come out. he could get retrofit roller lifters and a cam button.

 

I'm probably mistaking, but I thought that retrofit hyd. roller lifters didnt work with OEM style camshafts.

 

never heard of it. but you could be right. the only difference is how they are kept from turning. but i will say it is an expensive way to do this. you could be better and cheaper off just getting a hydraulic flat tappet cam and lifter kit. usually around $160
