LT1 cam for my L98

Hey guys , here is my story. I picked up a nice little 87 iroc that I am now restoring . I want a little more kick from my 350 without spending much at all. Now a few people suggested I slip in a stock LT1 cam with a set of 1.6 rr . They said it was a nice little gain .

Now here is the kicker. I am not doing any head work nor am I removing the heads. I am not going crazy with this thing performance wise. Just an exhaust / headers , K&Ns , minor port and polishing of the intake and runners, and removing the AIR stuff.

Now I know and have accepted the fact that this is not a race car nor do I want it to be . I just want a little more jump when those pesky civics come around. My question is , Will a stock LT1 cam with 1.6 rr install with no problems on my stock L98 ? I have read through many threads on several forums and can not find a STRAIGHT answer for the life of me . They always go off into other discussions. Thanks guys.

Oh also I know I will have to get new springs which is ok because it needs new valve seals anyways . Just not sure which ones to get .

There are better cams. Personally I don't see the point in doing all that work for nothing basically. The cam profiles are not all that different. I started out that way too, then ended up getting heads, then ended up building a whole new engine. Of course not everyone is going to go that route and I respect you for what you're trying to do, but IMO, I wouldn't trust a used part, just because of obvious reasons and secondly, just save a few more pennies, and get a cam, suited for your otherwise stock motor, and you will be much much happier.

The lt1 stock is a dog. The new '11 mustang v6 will out do the lt1. Go bigger. You'll get bored fast with an LT1 cam.

13.23 with only a Cold air intake, 4.10 gears and a custom pcm tune on a 100% stock lt1 motor and stock A4 trans/convertor is a dog? In a full trim t-top car on street tires no less. Lots of people have and continue to be happy running an lt1 cam in their tpi's. To say someone else won't be happy is just kinda pointless isn't it. Remember one man's trash is another man's treasure. And roller cams are pretty much good indefinately and don't really wear like a flat tappet cam at all so unless it came from a catastrophic blow up.....used roller cams are perfectly fine.

I recommend the original poster head over to thirdgen.org. While this site is great for lt1-ls1 input.....I NEVER got an ounce of possitive input from here when I was a 3rd gen driver.

I had an LT4 Hot Cam(kit) in my L98 and had NO problems with valve clearance. So I would think you would be fine with your LT1 cam.

Low Mile LT1 Cam

I happen to have a relatively low mile LT1 Cam for pretty cheap if you don't have one already...
