lt1 in 3rd gen

i heard somebody at the auto store talking about putting the lt1 in the 3rd gen and was wondering if it is doable. if its possible i will be picking up a car to do it. what would the best one to get or least money basically would a 305 rs be okay? or go with the z? i really dont want to mess with running fuel lines. where can i pick up a good used one reasonably priced? i heard you could pick one up from contemporary corvette engine and trans for about 3 grand. will a 700r4 in the car work with the lt1? any help is appreciated

RS 305 is the car to start with...not only will it be somewhat cheaper, it will also contribute to the sleeper quality. The original fuel lines will work....although the TBI fuel pump will prolly need replaced. Motor and tranny mounts are the same to.

The stock 700-R4 out of the RS will bolt up to the LT1, but I think you'll need the LT1 flexplate, and might as well get a better torque converter while you're in there. You also might wanna rebuild the tranny depending on mileage.

LT1's are everywhere.....you can get em from 'Vette shops but they'll be more expensive. It'd be cheaper to get one out of a wrecked 4th gen or Caprice and rebuild it. That way you have a fresh engine and you KNOW how it's been driven and maintained. Good luck with it.

Theres a ton of info out there on this. As a matter of fact, I'm currently doing one. A great place to go is www.thirdgen.org There are tech articles on the subject.

Also, check the links on the last page of my generic site http://unitsn4.cz28.com/contact.html and I'm sure they'll help you quite a bit.

Get a 93 LT1 if you are planning on running a 700-R4. Much easier since this is the only 4th gen year that doesnt use a 4l60E. Motor mounts need to be cut and modified, Fuel lines from under the hood are okay but you will need custom lines to attach to the fuel rail. Lt1 flexplate is the same just use the LT1 starter. Wiring is the fun part. Many people get a custom harness, but what I did was make my own and save myself hundreds of dollars. I had a pcmforless make me a custom PROM as my motor is not stock and I wanted VATS, EGR, and AIR deleted. Any more questions just shoot me an email.

Also forgot to say that a bigger fuel pump is required. Get one for a TPI motor and you will be fine. I got a Walbro 255 for $100 shipped. It is bigger than stock but still a good deal.

I've done it...twice!

My site is the first on that "generic links" page. It's also in my sig.

Check it out...and if you have questions...fire away, via e-mail.

Yes, it is doable; I know some people who have done it.
