LS1 into 3rd Gen????
Check out www.thirdgen.org there's some info over there either in the tech. articles or in the forums. There's also a couple of guys out there who've done this and documented it on their websites, but unfortunately I don't know the sites. I can give you some basic ideas about what you're getting into. You'll need to make custom motor mounts, you'll need to whole wiring harness and computer, you'll need the fuel pump or one designed for the LS1, and you'll need the clutch hydralics from the 4th gen. I've heard that the wiring harness is a real pain to match up to your can, and if painless wiring makes one for this application and you can afford it, I'd go that way. You need the fuel pump because there's no fuel pressure regulator on the LS1, so it increases/decreases the fuel pump output as it needs more/less pressure. The 3rd gen clutch hydraulics don't work with the 4th gen T-56's so that's why you need to 4th gen parts, and you'll also need a signal converter to make your speedo work correctly. I think everything I've said here is accurate, or very close to it, but this is a very basic introduction. Definitely do your research. Good luck and keep us up to date.

I've asked around locally about that same installation and here's what I got from it. To install an L98, LT1, or LS1 5.7 you are looking at a combination of simple and difficult dynamics. The engine/tranny swap itself is not that big a deal. You will need to enquire with a dealer on wether or not the transmission mount will mount up to the T-56, but the motor mounts should be fine. The big deal is wiring. Since the 3rd and 4th generation Camaros had different wiring, that'll be your biggest feat. I know a guy that buys exprired and totalled state vehicles (police cruisers, etc.) and does engine/transmission swaps with them. He can take a '95 Caprice (LT1, 285HP) and install it in a 3rd gen F-body with no sweat. If the LT1 will work, the LS1 shouldn't be a problem, just more expensive to aqcuire. Hopew this helps!
it's alot more than an lt1......do your research before jumping into it with both feet.
beyond the average know how for the engine and trans there is the custom motor mounts, wire harness installation, new computer, and adapting the guages.......there are many other things but these are the biggest concerns.
save your money and build a small block, unless your getting a deal or have the money to make the application really work it isn't worth the time.
