I've watched a couple SD L98s go low low 14s with absolutely nothing done, and several in the 14.2-14.4 range. I've never seen or even heard of any 305 touching those numbers stock. Fastest I've ever heard of was a 14.6 or 14.7.

Check out these numbers; the 305's are usually VERY close (in the same year..) hp wise, and rear-end wise the standards are MUCH better. 3:27 for the auto and 3:45 for the manual. Same power, plus less parasitic loss thru a standard, PLUS better gears= the 305 being just as fast or even faster in some cases

 

I actually checked that out and was surprised to see those numbers out of the 305's, didnt think they had that much in them. However i think a lot of the 305's came with the smaller cam that had 30 or so less horsepower.

Regardless youve got to assume that the 5 speed driver in most cases wont drive 100% perfect, so the auto has some reliability on its side. And youre still ending up with about .3-.5 of a second difference which is 3 to 5 car lengths.

But see how the 305's aren't really *that* bad power wise 300ft/lb's out of a STOCK 305 is NOTHING to be ashamed of

EDIT: Yes, you are correct; MOST of the 305's came w/ a sh*tty cam, BUT *some* years of 305 TPI came w/ the same exact cam as the 350 TPI. The exact years of these 305-cam-cars are posted in another thread on the same page as this one

 

well you can see it in the tech, the difference between the two 305 motors is im pretty sure the cam. Like i said im surprised that the 305's made 300 ft lbs, i would have guessed 285 max

But, now what do you say about my 300hp and 350lb estimates on my 305? See.. the problem w/ the 305's, and I mean ALL OF THEM, is the intake, exhaust, cam, and heads (except the heads on some 305's, like the LG4's..) are HORRIBLE. I have heard from respected members that 30hp on exhaust ALONE is the average number produced (full exhaust I am talking about), and uncap your intake, heads, etc.. and you have a bumpin' 305

 

Yeah sorry for coming across as an *******. But I really have to stand by my opninion that 85 305 is a tool. I mean wtf is this "estimated" hp in your sig. Just get the damn thing dyno'd, until then don't post up numbers like that thinking you are hot ****. Second of all, so what if I'm new on the forum. I guess that means I'm "new" to the whole world of camaros too eh? And for christs sake don't list a 6spd tranny in your sig as "soon to come". Put it in your sig ONCE YOU GET IT IN YOUR CAR. That's my rant. I just can't stand people who put nonsense in their sigs.

Hey asscrack, I bet this tool of an 85 305 will give either one of your cars a run for it's money. It's not like I can dyno it right now because I am about to got to a 60k college, and I dont have much change to spare right now to get it on the road, let alone get it dyno'd. And incase you havn't noticed, NOBODY in the part of the forum is as much of a cack-slab as you See.. this is the *mature* part of cz28.com where you give your *mature* advice, and leave it at that. I dont mind people like doug screwing around with me, or Manny, or ws6transam etc, because they have taught me a lot and we have known each other for a LONG time.
And ALSO incase you havn't noticed, MANY people put what they have planned in their sig, so go troll somewhere else.

 

Wow it is truly amazing how much 85_305's signature bothers you. You must live a very shallow and meaningless life to be that strongly effected by that. And i pretty much live by the saying that the funny thing about common sense is that its really not that common, and since you seem to have none im going to let you in on a little bit. The fact that you are new here means you have no prior reputation for knowing what youre talking about, being a good guy, being helpful etc etc, so if you show up and make stupid hateful posts, as far as anyone is concerned youre just a jackass.

On the other hand i think its kinda stupid that 85_305 doesnt want to tell people what his combo is, not like hes got nasa and the secret service designing something for him. Then again i also have enough other things happening in my life that i dont exactly lose any sleep over it.

EDIT: and 85 im going to sugest that you dont try to defend yourself, just ignore the stupidity, but you truly have no need to get involved with it, just chuckle at him and move on, otherwise youll just make it worse
