Re: low 13's?

ram air
port the intake Y
52mm tb
port the hell out of the plenum
full tune up with new distributer
headers and exhaust
mild cam
custom chip

and suspension mods to hook that torque to the ground

been out of the TPI area for a while...maybe without the cam you could make low 13s...but it'd be hard

Whats wrong with the 305 TPI? They ran just as fast, infact a bit faster, than it's 350 counter-part

But like V8 Slayer said, 13's w/ the 305 or 350 TPI is NOT a difficult task

Its amazing how you can say things that are just blatently not true.

The 305 is not easy to get into low 13's, youd be talking new intake, cam, full exhaust, and probably new heads.

A 350 would even need some work to get into the low 13's with rear end gears, full exhaust, and mildly ported heads i expect my car to run a high 13.
So with a cam and some intake porting im hoping to run a 12.99, possibly get the heads ported more previous owner had that done and ive never seen the job that was done on them.

Also know if youre going for a 13 flat youre probably gonna blow out your tranny and rear end, so be prepared to replace those

4th Gen rear ends aren't much better.

Re: low 13's?

Want low 13's? Want TPI? Without a LOT of bolt-ons, gears, converter etc it wont happen. That's where a blower or nitrous comes in.

And the rears and automatic transmissions in the 4th gens are no stronger than the 3rd gens. It's just the 4th gens components are generally much newer. Some 3rd gens even came with a 9 bolt rear, which is a good bit stronger than anything ever offered in the 4th gen cars.

Really? I blatently say things not true?
How is putting in a new cam and getting a full exhaust, and putting a new intake on hard?? You dont need aftermarket heads on your 305, just get them machined if you have a friend in the business..
But that honestly does not sound like a "lot" of work to me.

Maybe if you compared a late SD G92 305 to say an early 87-88 350, especially a GTA. But even the strongest 305 could not keep up with the 90-92 350 cars.

Re: low 13's?

To get low 13's out of a TPI your gonna need the following...

First off ported TPI system, different runners and ported intake base. SLP 1 3/4 headers full exhaust and good tune. Also if you car is an automatic a good 2500rpm-3000rpm stall would do wonders. Then if you can porte your heads and 1.6 rr's should get you around where your wanting to go. We did a GTA one time and got it to run 13.8 with just ported heads, ported TPI, SLP runners cat-back exhaust and good tune. The customer claimed to keep up/take stock LT1's rather frequently, so theres some suggestions for you.

I have been told that due to the higher parasitic loss thru the auto, and the slightly heavier weight, the auto 350's (TPI) were very evenly matched by the standard 305 TPI's.
