Looking for the right exhuast

Just picked up a 1991 z28 305. Looking to make some power and good sound. Any tips on what I would need starting from the engine back. Specific make / models would be very appreciated.

Do you need to pass emissions? And do you want a true dual set up?

Not worried about emissions. Unsure of putting in a true duel. I've heard that with a 305 its not with it. Thoughts?

I agree, its not worth the problems from the true duals. I would recommend a set of headman headers and their y-pipe. Then I would probably ditch the cat, run it back to a crossflow hooker aerochamber muffler.

Im running a similar setup with the 80 series flowmaster, but Im not very satisfied with the sound. It has too much of a popping sound. Hope this helps alittle bit.

Never considered Hooker muffler. Tx. I've heard mixed reports on 80 series flowmaster. Wondering the pros / cons of the Hooker muffler compared to the Flowmaster.

I always post this....DON'T DO AN 80 SERIES FLOWMASTER!!

It sounds like a tin box with some drone thrown in. Hooker's Aerochamber is the one of the few cross flow mufflers I'd reccomend and I always say to stay with a single exit or a hidden tip. A single 3" system with a 3" 40 series flowmaster sounds incredible compared to their crossflow 80 series. I will rumble down low and be smooth at WOT.

I second the vote for the Hooker system
Look at my Fquick page if you want to hear what one sounds like on the dyno.

Ive heard the single inlet / single outlet is good for low end.

Single inlet / double outlet is good for top end because no back pressure. Any thoughts?

ps. Super Comp Hooker headers, ceramic coated a good option ?

It's not cheap. But the sound is unbeatable.

"unbeatable sound" as in your GMMG set up or the Hooker setup?

The unbeatable being the GMMG.

As for the Hooker vs Flowmaster debate. I'll throw in my two cents. Like most I've had the Flowmaster 80 in the past. It's good for what it is. But after a while it got kind of generic sounding. Friend of mine had a Hooker exhaust. At idle it was near stock silent. But once he opened it up, it was wild. A real yin and yang of exhausts. So the Hooker is nice for daily drivers, vehicles where you don't want it to be noisy all the time. I believe they flow more than the Flowmaster as well.

The GMMG is similar to a Flowmaster at idle, except much deeper and louder. Sort of a burble sound if that makes sense. It changes frequencies the more gas you give it. Flowmasters basically sound the same at any throttle level.

I don't know what they would sound like on an LB9. Probably close to an L98 I would imagine.

That'll tell you what the Hooker system sounds like with Hooker Super Competition headers. The sound file takes you from idle through 6400 RPM.

I hope to get some trackside footage from my Memphis runs, where I pass the camera while shifting from second through fifth gear at 6400 RPM on the straightaway.

I'll offer another option that doesn't get much play, which is the Dynomax system. Most will say that it's too quiet for their taste, and at idle it is, but when you get up there in the RPMs it's real nice.
