Lighter t-tops? Plastic possibly?

Post Lighter t-tops? Plastic possibly?

Just wondering if there are lighter t-tops available for our third-gens. I heard that there might be plastic ones available. Any one have any info on where I'd find some?

They made Lexan T-Tops. Mine have them. They are incredibly light but very easy to scratch. I've seen them for sale every once in awhile but they are very expensive.

Well, at least I know they made them. My glass ones are all scratched up any way. And I was hoping they WEREN'T too expensive, but I kinda had a feeling...

So no place to get them then?

You see them for sale, usually the ppl selling them don't know what there worth, I was going to get a set, then I heard of leaking and Stars and major scratching, none the less you would only save about 14lbs in total. move your battery to the rear or get fiberglass fenders or a k-member, better weight loss and better weight transfer doing those mods.. Then again only my opinion, there is a guy on here let me find his link... NM I can't find it, his screen name is StevenIroc or something like that, he has changed his whole car into a dragster, he is running the lexan tops and might have an extra set.

They look like poo I had them on my car when I bough it. They had lots of little cracks or stars in them. The glass ones i got from a junk yard were about twice as heavy but I could see threw them and they look 10x better from the outside.

unless you're going on a serious weight saving trip and are concerned with every little pound I would say stick w/ the glass ones.....

they are more durable and are cheaper to get a replacement set

check out ebay for replacement sets of either type

Skip the Lexan tops. GM dealers were autorized back in the time of their availability, to replace lexan tops with glass free of charge. Due to the extensive cracking and scratching, and aging problems.

I have the lexan tops and they look like ***......so many stress fractures ("stars") that you can barely see through them.

I am not sure of the company's name, but if you go to www.martelbros.com they have a dealer that sells lexan replacements for every peice of glass in our cars. The weight savings of changing the hatch glass, windsheild, t-tops, and side windows over to lexan would be huge, but I do not know how well it all works on street use. I am going to get the number for the manufacture and grill them on the ease of living with their products.
