leaking oil

leaking oil

it looks like i am leaking oil out of #8 exhaust port where it connects to the headder what to you guys think could it be a lifter not adjusted right i did put new cc lifters maybe i didnt adjust them right and clues or ideas

if oil is getting into the combustion chamber either your valve seals or your valve guides are no good. If your lifters weren't adjusted correctly you would just get popping and backfiring because the valve would always be opened (rockers too tight) or valve "clacking" (rockers too loose).

Sounds more like a valve cover gasket than anything else. Did you seal them with anything when you put them back on after the valvetrain work? What kind of gaskets did you use? I find it works best to glue the gasket to the valve cover with black RTV or something similar and let it dry for a couple hours before you put the covers on. That way the gasket won't try to slide out from under the cover.

how do you get the right setting on the lifters i dont want them to tight or to loose . the gasket is off a bit i think that is it

plus i am getting alot of black carbon on my collecters of my headers any ideas

If it is on the outside of the headers it soulds like something is leaking from the valve cover or the intake manifold. If is is inside the tubes, it would be either the valve guides, valve stem seals or both. That or the rings or something is not burning right.

For exterior leaks, clean off the engine so you can see if it leaks again. Dump some dye into the oil and drive. Use a blacklight to check for it.

i fixed the leak now i am woundering about the black gunk i have in my headder collector is the normal or is that just the car running rich.
