The only 350 engine offered from 82-92 was the L98 350 engine. The intake on top of it is reffered to as TPI. They ALL came with a roller cam/lifters. Corvettes also came with this L98 350 however the heads are cast of aluminum not iron. L98 heads probably have a specific casting number on them also.

You can call any 350 a TPI 350 if you put that intake on it. Hope this helps.

All 87-92 Camaro/Firebid 350's are the same , except for later models with a dual exhaust option.

There was never a 3rd gen that rolled off the line with "true duals." Maybe you mean Dual TIPS, but not dual exhaust, lots of people get that concept confused.

Anyway, I know why hes confused. I have read about another 350 TPI refered to as B2L. Now if there is really a diff I dunno, But I believe the B2L might be the 87 350 TPI that had a V-belt setup rather than the 88+ serpentine belt setup.

Just a thought!

Later models came with a dual cat option. I think that's what was meant.

Not all 87-92 350s are exactly the same. Up until 1990, MAFs were used. During the shortened production year of 1990 (because of expiring IROC license), the MAF was switched out for a Speed Density system. So 87-89 have MAFs and 90-92 have SD. The same is for Vettes.

the 87 motor is an L98 they rollerized in 87 which is a new type of block 1 piece rear main 86 and older had the 2 piece.the B2L is an option code for the 350 which is an L98 just like the newer ones are LT1 and LS1 or even LS6.

Heres a pic of my RPO from my 92 Z28 L98, note it has code B2L as well as L98.

Ya, 87 back is still v-belt, although some I think that had an elec. fan starting in 86 got a serpentine alt. Thats what I have at least, and my car is stock.

Still dont know about that B2L though

For everyones info:
B2L is the RPO code for thr L98 350 TPI engine for all years. This is the basic 350 regardless of what else it has. Different Maf or Speed density or the belts & etc, it still is a L98 with a RPO B2L on the order sheet.

L98 is the 350 TPI engine with in a Corvette. The B2L code is in addition to the L98 option which signifies its a Camaro/Firebird 350 TPI engine.

all this time i thought the b2l was the fbod version of the l98. as far as i knew the corette engine was actually different cause of alum heads but everyone with a fbod would say it has the l98 corvette engine in it although it trully wasnt the exact same engine. does that mean the b2l is a iron head version of the l98 corvette engine? just when i thought i understood i get confused yet again?

theres my .02.

later,
Nick J

You are confusing two different car lines....
Camaro/Firebid=RPO B2l L98
Corvette =RPO (?) L98
Same deal with the 4TH Gen Camaro/Firebird LT1 & LS1 also the same in the Corvette (with upgrades),
It is GM's model numbers for the same engine.
