L69 Question
L69 Question
I'm trying to order a engine kit from Summit. I have a 84' H.O. L69 VIN:G. Apparently their books only show a VIN:G starting in 86'. They checked the compression ratio with 64cc heads, standard bore and crank and it came out to 9.11:1 which sounds about right. My question is is this engine the smae as my L69?

Yeah I looked there, thanks.
Re: L69 Question
The L-69 used higher compression pistons (flattops) than the low output LG-4 (dished) up to 1985. After that, they used the same higher compression pistons and had the same compression ratio.
Any kit you buy you should get with flattop pistons to keep your compression ratio where it is now. Other than that, there shouldn't be much difference in the kits that I can think of.
Did a little search for you on Summit's site and found this: FEM-MHP124-300. Plug in that part number (I would give you the link, but this message board won't take it for some reason).
Obviously, they are available in many different piston oversizes and crank journal undersizes, but you get the idea. This is roughly what you want.
How I tracked it down: keyword "engine rebuild kits", then selected Chevy, then 1984, then 5.0L, then the ring and bearing over/undersizes. That's what dropped out along with the re-ring kit (same kit without the pistons, basically).
