L69 to 400SB swap
Hey everyone,
I'm new to his website, but I do need some advice and I assume you guys know your stuff! I just bought a 1984 Camaro with the L69 5-speed manual (3.73 rear). What I need is to know the strengths of these parts! I am in the process of building a mean 400 SBC putting out 450+ hp. I want to just swap engines and leave the tranny and rear stock. Is that wise? If anything, I wanted to put a posi 3.73 12 bolt, and at least rebuild the transmission for good faith. I know I'll probably have to get sub-frame connectors with the torque and I'm already planning on replacing/repairing any suspension pieces that wear out. Is there anything else I am missing? Will it be a simple dropin (besides the hood-I'm getting a cowl induction)? Any help you guys can offer would be invaluable. Thanks!

my guess is that the tranny will go before the rear does. Only thing that will break your rear is traction with 450horse. Traction.. torque.. and twisting is what hurts the rear. Im running a 400horse 400sb in front of a TH-350 and i had the stock S10 rear for 2 years 3.08's 26spline axles and even when i took it out it still had no problems, cuz all it used to do was spin tires.. even with slicks at the track.

The motor for all intensive purposes will be a direct dro pin, so long as you have the correct externally balanced dampner, and flex plate.
However why go to all the trouble of buildig that beastly engine on a stock tranny. It wont last without a performance rebuild, and its kinda blasphemy to not have some kinda stall convertor behind a motor like that. I say leave the rear like it is till you destroy it. If it breaks it needed to be modded anyway
