Knock Sensor gone crazy. PLEASE HELP

My car has been running funny lately. I thought it was a fuel problem but I traced all the fuel lines and changed the filter. That took care of most of my problems. I still had a high RPM miss and went through the Ignition and replaced the cap and rotor. This helped more but the distributor was rusty and today I replaced that. My block learns went from 114 to 140 at idle. I was getting a solid 9 knock counts but no retard. Today I hooked up the Auto X-ray and the Knock Sensor is cycling from 0-255 then starts over. It just keeps going like that. As it goes it starts taking out Knock Retard up to 11deg. The knock sensor is twelve years old. Can it just go bad? I have some valve train noise, can this cause this. The car ran fine until last week I checked the timing and reconnected the set timing connecter with the car still running. Could I have done some damage to the PROM. I need help bad

If the KS is original and that old, yes there is a good chance it might have a problem by now. A good cheap place to start troubleshooting would be with replacing it.

Also as far as the valvetrain noise, what is causing it? Has your knock count been going up for a while or just all of the sudden recently?

I will move this over to 3rd Gen Tech though as we should try it in the proper forum first. And if you dont get any good responses there then try back in Adv Tech in a few days.

Thanks!
