just bought 91 rs what mods to do
Re: just bought 91 rs what mods to do
Which should buy, a new exhaust system or headers? Which would better performance, air flow, sound, etc. If I get new headers, would it be in my best intrest to buy a new exhaust system? ANd if so, which is the least restrictive?
Re: just bought 91 rs what mods to do
i have a question, do they make a supercharger for the 305 tbi????
what about tpi conversion kit? How much would that cost?
Here's a link to a good write-up on the swap: http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tbitotpi.shtml

First off. How mechanically inclined are you? Have you ever worked on a car before? Do you want to learn?
I'd go with a full tune first like was previously mentioned. Then headers and matching high flow cat/catback just like mentioned. If you can get a set of heads off a later thirdgen car (lb9) then try to get those ported some. Think about a later lt1 cam (only because they're so damn cheap) and matching valvesprings. Are you good with a computer at all? You could try to get into programming with things such as the prominator, romulator, autoprom, etc.
If you want an intake swap don't waste time on a tpi setup unless it's free just go straight to a holley stealthram if you can.

Re: just bought 91 rs what mods to do
i have messed around with engines very little but i have friends that will help me and i want to learn which is why im going through the trouble of asking people what things to do and then trying to do it with a few friends rather than to pay someone to do it for me, i want to be able to sayh i did that , not some shop if u know wat i mean, guess kind of a pride thing
Re: just bought 91 rs what mods to do
i found an article from some fbody site taht talks about modding the 305 tbi and throughtout the whole thing it mainly talked about gettin as much cold air into the engine as possible, are there any parts that i could order or do they have to be custom made, i will find the article sometime tonite.

14x3 Open Element with a K&N Air Filter....Cant get any better airflow for a TBI than that.Only costs like $100 or so,easy to install and the power gains WILL be noticible. You'll literally hear that thing sucking air in!

open element, wont that pull warm air in from under the hood?? just something that i have heard and if it des bring warm air in then wont that decrease my horsepower.
Re: just bought 91 rs what mods to do
An open element will bring in warm air, but it will bring in lots more air than the stock air cleaner, so you will still notice a gain in power. Ideally you could run some type of cold air setup, but the cost would be much more. There is no reason why you should spend $100 on an open element, go to the local parts store and pick one up for $30-$40.

go to http://www.caraddons.com/test.asp and match up your car with the parts you need.
