Which should buy, a new exhaust system or headers? Which would better performance, air flow, sound, etc. If I get new headers, would it be in my best intrest to buy a new exhaust system? ANd if so, which is the least restrictive?

There are superchargers for TBI engines, but their is no direct bolt-on supercharger for our cars. It's going to have to be a completely custom job if you really want one.

The cost varies. It depends on who and where you get your parts from. If you just swap to a TPI intake, you won't see a big gain in power, if at all. The same thing will happen if you just slap a carburetor on it. The stock 305 TBI cylinder heads and camshaft are still going to hold you back. You would be much better off swapping in a complete TPI engine rather than converting the 305, in my opinion.

Here's a link to a good write-up on the swap: http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tbitotpi.shtml

That all depends, as well. In theory the whole exhaust system needs to be changed out, but if you had to do just one, than a cat-back would be my choice. Headers will give you a better performance gain and air flow than a cat-back, but leaving the rest of the exhaust stock is just going to choke them and keep the performance down. A cat-back exhaust will give better sound than headers, but a cat-back alone won't boost performance a lot. A lot of people buy a cat-back exhaust system first for their car, and then later on buy headers.

First off. How mechanically inclined are you? Have you ever worked on a car before? Do you want to learn?

I'd go with a full tune first like was previously mentioned. Then headers and matching high flow cat/catback just like mentioned. If you can get a set of heads off a later thirdgen car (lb9) then try to get those ported some. Think about a later lt1 cam (only because they're so damn cheap) and matching valvesprings. Are you good with a computer at all? You could try to get into programming with things such as the prominator, romulator, autoprom, etc.

If you want an intake swap don't waste time on a tpi setup unless it's free just go straight to a holley stealthram if you can.

14x3 Open Element with a K&N Air Filter....Cant get any better airflow for a TBI than that.Only costs like $100 or so,easy to install and the power gains WILL be noticible. You'll literally hear that thing sucking air in!

An open element will bring in warm air, but it will bring in lots more air than the stock air cleaner, so you will still notice a gain in power. Ideally you could run some type of cold air setup, but the cost would be much more. There is no reason why you should spend $100 on an open element, go to the local parts store and pick one up for $30-$40.
