IROC vs. Import
N.O.S. is a company name name not the name of nitrous, and if used properly is not going to hurt a SBC. My buddy ran a 200 shot on a '91 Z28 350TPI all summer long. I pulled the block apart for him that fall at 120,000 miles. Nothing wrong with it. Could of ran it on stock bore but he already had a set of .030 JE's for it so it got bored.

350tpi's are over rated. my 305tpi walked all over my 350tpi.
people look at 305's like there slow or bad engine's. i'm willing to bet my 305tpi is not only faster than my 350 tpi but i bet it lives longer as well.
305/335tpi has 16,000 miles on it.
l-98 350tpi has 3,800 miles on it.
i bet $100 that the 350 spin's #7 rod bearing and and pop's the block beore the 305 start's smokin.
cause the 350 is already smokin at start up.
but anyway bottom line that eclips will smoke your *** good.
i'd do some quick mod's.
i'd replace: cap, rotor, plug's,wires, and change oil some nice 20w-50. a stall converter or some new rear end gear's like 3.42's or 3.73's.or both converter and gears.i'd do the tune up and oil change 20w-50,2,200 rpm stall 3.73 gears get a bigger throttle body if it tpi get 52mm tb if it's tbi get the 670cfm tb then get the tbi spacer's.for now that will open you up a bit. then later get a 292*cam with 575 lift.

Talk him into racing the 1/4. Get the Eclipse out of the hole and you should be able to hold him off. I think you said it was an auto right? Even better.
I know my RS had a top speed limiter of like 110 or so. Make sure your z doesn't if you do decide to race a 1/2 mile.
I wouldn't even worry about modding your car unless he has some. Just make sure it is running good and you should be alright. My friend has a basically stock 91 Z and it ran 14.8s with an auto and 305. That will tear that Mitsu up.
And whoever pointed out that NOS is a company, thanks. I hate it when people call Nitrous Oxide "NOS". I had one guy actually ask me if I had NOS on my car after he saw the solenoid. I told him no and the most confused look appeared on his face after that

OH IDON'T KNOW MY 305 HAS A 400 CRANK AND IS BORD 30 OVER OTHER THEN THAT ITS STOCK.
AND IT WALKS ALL OVER MY 350. AND THE 305 HAS MORE MILES ON IT.
350'S ARE SEMI QUICK BUT THEY BLOW UP.
AND IT'S ALWAY'S #7 ROD THAT GOES THREW THE BLOCK.
I'M A 400 MAN AS FAR AS SMALL BLOCK'S.
I GUESS IT BOIL'S DOWN TO IS I LIKE 400SBC'S AND 409BBC'S 327'S AND427'S ARE ALRIGHT.NOT A BIG FAN OF 454'S OR455'S
.BUT I LIKE 389PONT.,400PONT.
I'VE HAD BETTER LUCK WITH 305'S THEN 350'S.
NEVER TRYED A 383SBC DID HAVE A 383 MOPAR.
i'm not 350's are the biggest waste of space gm ever built.
i'm saying there just not for me. if a get a car with a 350 i run it till it blows and either get a 305 or 400 to replace it. somtimes i do a big block 409 400 or 427. and every now and then i do 327.
most common engines i got are 400sbc's 400bbp's 409bbc's and 427bbc's as far as gm goe's.

Try removing some weight from the car. The jack, spare, miscelleneous items. You can probably find 50 to 100 pounds, every little bit helps. Pump up your front tires to 40psi if it's a srtait line contest and change oil and plugs. Make sure wires are good as well. You have some power in there that is probably untapped due to the age of the car(tune-up)Check air and gas filters. 3rd gens are notorious for losing power big with clogged fuel filters.
Hey Mikey dragster, give me your reasons for your likes and dislikes. Oh and if you could please turn off the CAPS LOCKS.
Because seriously you sound dumber with each post, like the one about hopping up a ZL-1 (which I am fairly sure you don't have) Oh and it isn't a 305 if it has a 400 crank, it is a 334, do you hear people with 383's going around and telling people they have a 350 that will run better than their other 350???
409's are outdated junk, do you even know how to perform an overbore on one? You can't use a bore bar, you have to hone it the entire way because of the retarded idea of putting the compression chamber in the block.
I think the reason you don't like 350's is because you have seen one throw the number 7 rod. "AND IT'S ALWAY'S #7 ROD THAT GOES THREW THE BLOCK." The last 350 I blew up tossed the #2 rod. The last 305 I blew up tossed #1, #2, #4, and #7. I pulled apart a 400 once that tossed number seven and taken out the entire outside of the cylinder wall, better write off 400's, I mean seriously they toss the #7 rod and have that large cylinder bore that is so undesireable. Hell why don't we all go hot rod 267's I mean with that killer 3.5" bore you could make some serious power. There is a reason no one likes 305's, it isn't because of the size, it is an inferior design, it needs a bigger bore. Hell a 302 Chevy is a great engine.

And as for weight make sure you don't have a full tank of gas. Run at most 1/4 a tank, gas is about 7lbs a gallon so 15 X 7 =105lbs. 2 gallons weighs 14lbs. Just run enough to not run your pickup dry when you accelerate.

Everyone is right do all of the weight reducing stuff heck if you want to get really picky you can pull your floor mats those are 3-4 pounds. But yeah id say your best bet is in the 1/4 youve got a lot more bottom end but hell probably run you up top
how about you get a 4th gen or 2nd gen or even a 1st gen then you wouild have a chance beating him stock v.s. stock.
to make your third gen go you gotta spen d some $$$$$$$$$$. on it
you need: 292*575lift cam,3.73 gears,good exhaust,bigger throttle body,2,200rpm stall converter,ported head's and intake.
you should then get up and go.
