IROC vs. Import

I am scared. i have been chalenged to race a guy at my friends work. this is the first time i have ever let an import put fear into me. hear is the competion. I drive an 86 IROC 305 TPI, auto. its pretty quick and runs good. he is driving a 03' mitsubishi eclipse. it has a 3.0 liter v-6 with either 200 or 210 horsepower an automatic that has a "shift-like-a-stick feature". his stats arnt half bad against my stock camaro. The race is a closed area about 1/2 mile long . does anyone have any imput on an outcome ?

thanks, Ryan

He's got more horsepower than you and his car is _PROBABLY_ (I dont actually know for certain) lighter. Your edge is torque. If you dont kill him off the line, you're toast. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

a stock eclipse runs mid to low 15's i believe...not the fastest cars in the world by any means but i think you could probably take him as long as you get a good launch

i also think you put this post in the wrong section this should be in track kill stories just for future reference

i'd do some mod's before racing him.you got a high to mid 15 car he has mid to low 15 car so it would be close but i think he is more than likly gonna beat you. my 87 gtaL-98 i got smoked by a 3000gt non vr4 non turbo. just an sl.

Talking xcvbzdxf

Now's the time to go in the FOR SALE section and pick up a used Nitrous setup really cheap I did it and won't look back.

Last I seen was a kit identical to mine. Nitrous Express LT1 wet kit(Plumb it into the MAF sensor), all the bells and whistles, safety items, bottle opener, heater, etc...$650 or something which Is what I paid. 100hp worth of nitrous will put that car to SHAME He'll never say another word till he buys an F-Body himself.Goodluck! Email me if you have any questions.

couple things to think about....One personally id never run a shot of nos through a stock engine its not worth risking the damage you could do and believe it or not it is physically possibly to melt your pistons right into the block if you run too big of a shot now wouldnt that be fun. Just my opinion though

second of all you said it is a half mile track...does anyone know what the top end is like in an eclipse because a half mile is a pretty long *** distance...

yeah keep in mind it is a third gen. it's heavy and slow, very tunup sensitive.i still say the import will prolly win. god it pain's me to say that but it's true. the 4th gen v6's have more power then most of the third gen v-8's. but i guees that new tech for you.

A 100 shot wont hurt your engine at all even if it is stock. But before you run it make sure all the safety stuff is working and your car is in a good state of tune. I would also look into maybe a getting a cutout to weld into your exhaust, that will give you some really cheap and easy gains. But stock for stock I am sad to say that the Eclipse will beat you, prolly worse than you would think also. But if you hurry up and get some performance mods quick you may beable to give him a run, if not beat him

oh look another person saying ooooh be scared of the n2o!!! it's mystical. no stock motor can handle it. please i have all stock parts in my engine. 150 and no problems. just don't be stupid with it and you'll never have a problem.

You say "closed area"....does that mean a 1/2 mile straight stretch of road or 1/2 mile of twisties? If it's straight you need to get a bottle real quick but if you're talkin curves then you've got odds. 3rd gens have a very good suspension setup (even if it is 17 years old) and the TPI system makes much better torque to accelerate out of the curves.

Do exhaust, filters, remove front sway bar, and you should beat him. I ran a 14.9 w/ those exact mods, my car is the same as yours. Of course it depends on your milage, I have really low, so, I dont know. You should take him.

Thats a pretty ignorant statement, do you even know what causes pistons to melt?

12Second3rdgen: I BET A LEAN BURING ENGINE WILL MELT PISTON'S OR ONE WITH A VACUMME LEAK WILL TOO.
ONE WITH OIL DEPOSIT'S ON PISTONS THAT GENERATE HOT SPOST AND WHIZ BANG YOU GOT HOLE'S

heat? thats usually what causes things to melt. I dont claim to know a ton about cars i am 16 just bought my first car and am learning more and more by the day its just that i have heard of it happening and it doesnt seem like its worth the risk to me. And yes i know it is possibly that if you have a stock engine that is in perfect working order that everything will go fine. However id be willing to bet you a lot of people that have relatively stock cars dont have engines that are in good enough condition that you should be running a shot of nos through them. PERSONALLY (<<<key word) I would rather lose a race, take some time and save up, build my engine so it is actually making more power on its own rather then take the risk.

AND just for reference i know its different but i know of a guy around here who had a relatively stock motor in his civic it was basically an intake and maybe some minor minor other bolt ons. He was spraying with it and melted the pistons. Its just not worth it IMO
