intermittent misfire... tach needle jumps

Hi y'all... just found this place and thought I'd ask a question.

I've got a 90 IROC 305 TPI 5-speed that's got an intermittent misfire, generally above 2800RPM, and a tach needle that's become very 'jumpy' and seems to be reading higher than normal at cruise by 500-700RPM.

Besides the fact that while jumping around there's no real change in engine speed (sound) and that I recently replaced the clutch I doubt it's clutch slippage.

Some days, it runs great (at least without noticable misfire) even with the tach needle jumps... other days it feels like 2 or more holes went dead.

Before I start swapping parts out I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else has run into this.

Thanks,

Bill
