Intake Recomendations!?!?

I have the LG4 305, which is factory except for the air pump & accompanying tubes having been yanked.

I am planning on replacing the intake manifold, & going to a non-computer carb, which means swapping out the distributer.

Any suggestions?

I've been thinking of the Edelbrock intake, maybe Demon carb, but no idea on distributer.

This has come about as a bolt twisted off when removing the thermostat housing & in getting what was left of the bolt, a crack/chip on the inside came off.

Another reason I'm choosing this route is the car has had a glitch concerning the computer for a while now & I was just wanting to tolerate it until I could swap in a 350.

Almost forgot, it all needs to fit under stock hood.

TPI or Carb? Which way do you want to go? What are you trying to achieve? How much money to spend?

the performer, performer rpm, and air gap manifolds i heard were the best on the market. i thought about the performer rpm back in the day when i was considering changing to a carb setup.

I know Performer and Performer RPMs will fit under the hood, although don't expect to run a big air filter. I am in the process of doing some changes to my motor, and am going with a Victor Junior intake. It seems to be a hair shorter then my RPM is, which is GOOD, 'cause I have NO more hood clerance. I would like to run spray too, which would worsen the matter.

I run an Edelbrock Performer Intake, Holley 600 Elec. Choke carb, and it ONLY fits under my IROC hood with a TBI air cleaner assembly which has been modified/hacked to lower it furthur onto the carb. And it rubs while closed We basically cut the 1/2" tall ring off the bottom of the TBI baseplate aircleaner thing...(I'm new to carbs so I obviously don't know what to call a few things..hehe) I also picked up a new ProForm distributor with vac. advance(The very cheap model and it works great). My buddy wired it with a new connector and it's been flawless. You'll probably need a fuel pressure regulator to bump the pressure down a little and I used a Mallory 3 port unit to do that. Goodluck!

I was running a RPM intake, both 600 and 750 Holley (same height), both electric choke, and a 3" drop base chrome air filter. The hood closed, but rubbed and squished the filter a bit. Its tight, but it works.

With my 86 LG4 I went to an Edelbrock setup,
http://www.transamws6.com/pics/transam/Edelbrock.jpg
1406 Carb
7101 RPM Intake
Open Element Air Cleaner
Vacuum Advance Distributor
Ran a 14.94 @ 91.67mph with this setup

And also to a TPI 6 moths later,

87 TPI Setup
87 TPI heads
91 TPI ECM (Converted to Speed Density)
Crane Cams Powermax 2050 Camshaft
52mm TB
Holley 230lph In-line Fuel Pump
MSD 6A
Dynomax Headers
Pacesetter 3" Catback
SLP Dual CAI
Tunercat Programmer
PP2 Eprom Porgrammer

Ran a best of 14.1 @ 99mph with this setup.
Here is a vid of the car with the TPI setup,

Oh, and the Carb setup was soooooo much cheaper for the parts.

I've got the LT1 in the car now, should be much much faster than the 305.
