ignition timing

i know it sounds like a silly question and im not a complete newbie, but i need to adjust my timing because its too far advanced but i cant seem to locate the marks could someone let me know where they can be seen so that i can use the timing light. does something need to be removed to see them? my car is the 83 z28 black with gold ground effects

The timing marks should be on top of the harmonic balancer and to the right a little bit.

thanks for the reply but im still havin trouble seeing them. it seems like the water pump and the belts are in the way? i dont need to remove anything to do a timing job right?

If you stand on the driver side and hunch over looking between the steering pump and under the water pump you should see the timing marks near the top. If its stock the marking tab is stamped on the timing cover. It may be dirty... some steel wool will do the trick.
