Identifing Year Of Motor

On my car, the previous owner did a motor swap, and he told me the engine was out of a vette and everything, but he didn't tell me what year....I was just curious, is there a way to tell which year the motor is?

if its centerbolt covers its an 87+ if its not it can be anything below 86. the block casting # is located on the drivers side behind the manifold. hard to get at with the motor in the car but possible. take the # down and look it up. will tell you what year, size, and if its a 2 or 4 bolt main. will also tell you if its from a truck or car and where it was made

Mortec.com is a great site for looking up casting numbers.
