i need some imput here
i need some imput here
well guys i just bought a 3rd gen iroc. i am pulling the tpi 305 out as we speak. i would like to go carberated and keep the small block theme. i would like to get in the 11"s, but i am not sure what combo to run. any ideas from the small block guys would be great. thanks btw, i dont mind a power adder but i would prefer a blower if i did go with one.
Re: i need some imput here
to get in the 11's your gonna have to have alot more than just power under the hood...look into full suspension mods, torque arm, LCA's, panhard rod, shocks/springs and some sticky tires.....for the motor i would maybe build a 383 stroker or something, i'm not sure on what your skills are tho....you could go with maybe the little roots style blower with the single carb on top, thats good for 100 ponies or so, but you need some nice flowing heads, maybe some AFR 195's or trickflows or something along the lines of that...good cam, maybe like a rpm airgap intake or somehting, and a big carb, i'm not really an expert in engine building but there are some guys here that can help ya out on what to build...
Re: i need some imput here
Suspension will be a big factor to get you into the 11's. No sense building a 400hp motor if the car can't put that power to the ground. And why go carbed?? ANYBODY can build a fast carbed motor, fuel injection is more fun!
Re: i need some imput here
exactly, i used to think CARB CARB CARB, switch it too a carb...start learning about FI, its really fun stuff, you can do a lot of stuff with it, and gas mileage is awesome...carb is fossil, anybody can throw on heads, cam, intake, and carb and turn a screw to tune it...take a bit more for FI, but you take pride in your work, and you can create a lot more power with FI if tuned right...

FI is a challenge and is someting new too learn. Why be stuck knowing only one way fo building cars when everything new is Fuel Injected?
Re: i need some imput here
so if i change the block and internals, like the heads and pistons and make that a 383 then keep the fuel injection, how would that work out. i am terible with electric and i have no idea how to tune efi. i do plan on doing alot of suspension.
Re: i need some imput here
it would work out fine if you did an intake other than TPI...put a stealth ram on top of a 383 with good heads, and you'll quite possibly have a 500 HP motor....thats if its tuned right of course.....but we can't force you to learn how to tune an EFI, you gotta be willing and eager to go out and read, I mean read lots of stuff to actually get a grasp on what to do...i've read tons, and i still don't fully understand how to fully do it...a carb is always an easy way out tho...
Re: i need some imput here
i only know so much about fi but what i do know from playing with my tpi is that you can make them push big real big numbers....buy the book by tpis...jegs sells this book its a good start the next book i would buy is how to build a fi system...the how to books are fool proof and you will learn a lot...i would also buy how to build a high preformace ignition system it is also a great book....with all that you will hit your 400hp and most likely 500hp....with no supercharger or blower...you will be very proud of your work and have one bad *** tpi
Re: i need some imput here
ok well i am looking into everything you guys said, i am willing to learn so that not a problem, i also am off work for a while so i have all the time in the world. thanks for the ideas guys.
