Exclamation I call BS from a third gen owner...

Meet up with this guy tonite, He has a 88 Camaro, was originally a 2.8 He bought a 305 for it. Then got a 406 Stroker, solid lifters, I forget all the specs on the cam but it was .510 intake , .52X for the exhaust ... dont remember the other specs ... Edelbrok Intake , Holly Double Pumper 750 CFM , supposedly dynoed at 620RWHP, with pump gas 94 octane , through a built turbo 350 tranny. Stock rear end from the 6 cyl !!! Well sorta , he has 4.11:1 rear gears ... And a flowmaster exhaust, some kinda headers i guess? He sed not long tubes... Ok so anyways even if he IS making the power , and that part i sort of doubt ... but at any rate its doable with what he had ... He sed he only ran a 11.90 1/4 with slicks ... and 12.2 1/4 with street tires ... And he is still on the factory suspension in the front !!! ... Shouldnt he run MUCH better then an 11.90 1/4 with 620 wheel hp ? !!!! I mean **** theres LT1 and LS1 guys with less then 400 RWHP running those times ? I mean even if this guy sucked at dragging shouldnt it be much faster

O and newer cars ( Meaning LT1 and LS1 ) arent modifiable because theyre computer controlled he says ...

agreed....there is no way a stock rear end is taking that kind of abuse wether its v6 or v8 and the guy sounds like a tool. Did you check to see if he actually has any of that stuff on his car? People like that are always the ones that seem like they never have the time to race you...bunch of morons

Yea ... he sure enough has a V8 lol saw it ... and he definatly has a Holley 4 bbl , not sure tho if its really a 750 dbl pumper. And he does have a edelbrok intake , but still , i cant see everything he sed to be rite ... especailly if he is sellin it for only 4K ... I personally seem to think its only bolt ons and a stock bottom ... I told him i wanted to see time slips and he got quiet ... really tho , how much hp roughly do you need to get a stock weight 3rd gen )( that was NOT a factory 8 ) to run a near 12 sec 1/4 ??? He seys its 620 RWHP and only running that ... id be pretty pissed if i had those kinda #'s and only a 12 second 1/4 ... i mean there are LS1 and LT1 guys , L98 even , who are only making close to 400RWHP and running those times what the hell ?

well.. i wouldnt call bs.. but it be qestioning some ****. maybe case its carbs he can get the extra HP out of it ??? but im looking to get a cam for my 406 now. the 1 in there is really small (well.. imo it is) and im looking for a huge cam to really use the engine on how it was ment to be used. and still be FI. I am runnign the stock 10 bolt and 3.42's and its held up to my slicks and a 150 shot a number of times. but as u can see in my sig, with my old injectors and bad chip, i made 400 RWHP. lowballing my questimated hp/tq now with the new injectors and new comptuer tuning i will say im more @ 450rwhp/500rwtq and thats before the 200 shot. my goal is to get the engien to make 500RWHP/600rwtq before the spray. but even with my old #'s i ran a 12.3@126.

The 7 1/2 and 7 5/8 10 bolt rearends will take a surprising amount of abuse from automatic transmissions. My friend with a 92 s10 with a 383 in it runs 11.6's at 116mph on a 7 5/8" 10 bolt with factory gm gears and axles on slicks.

On the other hand, the same friend has an 88 Blazer with a 4.3 swapped into it and a muncie 4 speed, he broke a 7.5" 10 bolt rearend on his first powershift. 10 bolts do not like manual transmissions.

620 rwhp would put someone down close to 9's. I would imagine he is making around 450hp at the flywheel to put down low 12's or high 11's.

Not exactly. A friend of mine's 4th gen TA dynoed at 611rwhp and still has the stock rear with 3.73 gears. Runs on street tires and an M6. Best was a 11.81@125, spinning in 1st and 2nd gears.

Its a very heavy car with him in it, 4000+ lbs. So it can be done.

Also, I dynoed at 318rwhp and 455rwtq and ran 12.18@111. Well under 450 hp. All depends on combination, traction, driving, etc.

I know a few cars with close to 600HP that don't get any traction until 1/2 way down the track. They run low 12.0 but trap at close to 128 MPH. You can have 10000HP but if you have no traction you are not going into the 11.0. One friend is runing over 600HP and he has traction and his best run so far is 10.00. He has done some more work and removed some weight and now should be in the 9. It takes more than a big HP motor to make the big #.

He has a set of Slicks for the strip, and according to him traction isnt too bad of a problem ... Yet he only runs a 12 sec 1/4 ... hence i say he is ful of **** and is more realisticly putting down 400hp at the wheels ...

I would ask him exactly what a 406 stroker is. Generally a 406 SBC is a 400 with an .030" overbore, and a stock stroke of 3.750". Just look at the balancer. A stock 400 crank is externally balanced so it will have a larger diameter dampner with a notch to remove weight to make it balance.

Also I don't see him making more than 450 horse with those cam specs, that is fairly mild. Also a 750 CFM carburetor is not going to feed 620 HP.

Oh and there is no difference between a 4 cylinder, V6, or V8 7.5" axle.

What do you mean not exactly? Your friend's car weighs 800 pounds more than it should, is running street tires and has a manual transmission. He is lucky to be in the 11's.

We are talking about a non smog, carbed thirdgen (lighter) with a turbo 350 and slicks, the exact opposite of your friend's car. If your friend's motor was in my thirdgen, it would be a 9 second car on paper.
