How's this combo sound?

I don't think this is an advanced topic, however it may be. I'm putting together my phase / shopping list, and am looking for input on the motor upgrade. This will not be a rebuild at this time. Assume true dual exhaust, upgraded ignition, and built tranny. Thanks for taking a look.

23 degree, 72cc chamber, 195CC intake Aluminum heads

Full alluminum roller rockers

Hydraulic Roller Tappet cam, 292/296, .528/.539

Holley Stealth Ram

Holley 58MM Throttle Body

I think I matched it pretty well, but I'm not 100%. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need some SLP or Edelbrock runners, atleast 24# injectors, and adj. fuel pressure reg. I'm no pro but I'm in a project now. But it looks good to me otherwise. Good luck.

Re: How's this combo sound?

Getting rid of the long runners and going with the newer Stealth ram is always a great way to take advantage of a potent head/cam combo. Stick with 64cc chambers to keep compression at or near stock. 72cc will drop your compression and with aluminum heads, you should aim to GAIN a little compression which adds to more power, increased efficiency, and the larger cam will appreciate it Stock should be 9.4:1 roughly and I'd shoot for 10.5-11.0:1 for a premium pump gas car. Camshaft specs need to be thought about in terms of the car also. Weight, axle gear ratio, TQ converter stall speed. Comp Cam's website and catalog has more info that's not too in-depth/confusing.If you're getting all that air in, and true duals are the plan, you'll need Long tube headers. The cheap route is Headman's 1-5/8" and the middle of the road route is Hooker's Super Comp 1-3/4" ceramic coated from jet Hot. You'll hear more opinions for sure here.

...sounds good....I went 58cc's on my AFR 190's....wouldn't go 72 unless you have a dome piston.....make sure the gearing and stall (if auto) are gonna work with that combo.....should go 12's easy.

Re: How's this combo sound?

I'll take a look at the comp cams site. I believe in the end, I'll be running a 2500-2800 stall with probably 3.42's in the rear. The headers I am buying are the hedman elite long tubes. Ceramic coated.

I don't have a plan on the pistons at the moment, but going with the 58cc AFRs maybe the way to go. The AFR195's I have been told about look to have a 68cc chamber, still 4 CC more than stock. It still may be okay. I plan on spraying, but not all too often.

The goal is pretty straight forward. I want something that's a mean street machine (like I said in my other post about haning with anything off the production line) and I have since gotten ambitious and want to run mid 12's on pump gas. I figure if I can get that NA, then spray I'll be happy.

Thanks for all the advice.

Did you find an exact cam yet? If it's leaning towards the more aggressive side, you could always up the stall speed to 3200-3600 and still be completely streetable and also retain the lock-up feature. That may help you get deeper into the 12's or 11's. Don't forget your sticky tires 255/50/16 ET Drag Radials anyone?

I like the sound of that. Suggestions for the CAM that'll work?
