How would I stand
How would I stand
Alright fellas, I got called out by this guy in a 1989 Iroc convertable. He claims to have a 355 with a 52mm tb, 373 gears and heddman headers, with a straight pipe into the muffler. I have seen the headers and staright pipe but the rest I don't know about. As far as power adders, check my sig. I will have a ported plenum, slp runners, sfc's and wonder bar when we race. The stereo will be out of my ride. Honestly would I have a chance. His exhaust doesn't sound right for a straight pipe, mine is much more throaty and louder. Honest opinions please. Can I take him or what.
boy that's a tough one...
for starters, he's got a convertable...which is heavier and puts him at a slight disadvantage.
but it's hard to tell what he means by a 355...could just be all stock internals but the cylinder walls were cleaned up...that means not much power gain.
but hey...race him, so what if you lose...you are bolt on and he "supposedly" has a rebuilt motor...if you are close i would say you are doing darn good...
do you have any money for some more mods? see if you can borrow some drag radials or something...get a better launch and you may be able to hold him off in the 1/4 mile

Yeah I would agree with teke... It all depends on what's been done to his motor. If its a stock 350 that's been a bit bored, you would probably walk him... but if he's put more **** into his motor, he might give you a helluva run. If you knew more specifics I could tell you where you stand a bit better.
Let's just say this: I wouldn't put money on it.
...borrow a buddy's nitrous kit. Run a cheater 75 shot for the race. Bang, victory.

The only money I have left after the runners is for 3.42 gears. Those won't go in until the fall. I checked out his VIN and he has the same "F" code as mine, not the "8" the usual l98 have. I don't know if e's bluffing. I think his headers are 1 3/4 and I have the 1 5/8. Should I wait until the gear swap? I am also considering the lt1 cam, but unsure if it is worth the time and money. Please advise.
Good gear choice for the TPI... Though with the slight difference in gears, I'd almost be inclined to go get a meaner cam first off, if money is tight. Might give you a bigger edge over him then the gears.
The LT1 cam I've heard wonderful things about... but I personally want something a bit meaner. I'm going for something with a little bit harsher idle, and more power---but I'm also a carburated 350, with 4:11 rearend gears---so I need as much topend power as I can gather. The TPI is a monster down low... so the LT1 cam might be just right?
Just my thoughts.
