How to Remove Pick-up Coil on '89 305 TPI

Can anyone give me directions on how to replace the pick-up coil in the distributor on an '89 Iroc Z? The factory service manual says it should pull right off, but this one isn't moving. Do you have to remove the distributor from the vehicle to remove the pick-up coil?

Yes. The distributor shaft will need to be removed. The rotor electrode will align up with the dimple on the distributor gear. Make sure before dis-assembly. The roll pin will need to be tapped out to remove the gear. Once the gear is off, the shaft may or may not come out easy. You may have to spray some WD40 inside. If it sticks, work it back and forth. A small brass hammer lightly should do the trick. After the shaft is out, the pick up coil is ready. I don't remember, but, there may be a clip holding it in. Fairly easy with the correct tools.
