how important is TC lock up?
I recently put a LT1 in my 92 bird with 700r4. I bought a lock up kit but the switch will not work with that motor (vacuum). I know that the tranny will probably run a little hotter and supposedly get a little worse gas mileage but will it effect power if the tranny doesn't lock up? I'm thinking of using a window switch or making a switch for the pedal but until then it will not function. They sent me a vacuum switch that activates with vacuum at throttle but the LT1 has no vacuum at throttle does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Thanks
in advance.
in advance.
Don't really have a solution for it but lockup generally only happens in Drive or Overdrive, once the car is at a speed where the engine's torque will be able to sustain the car's momentum. On the highway it would hurt mileage but in the city I doubt if you see too many cases where the lockup would occur.

On my car my tranny will only lock up in overdrive, and it usually does it at around 40mph. So if I'm just cruising it definately helps keep the rpm's down a little bit, especially on the freeway.

Since I put a carb on my car, lockup has not been working...Doesn't bother me actually like I thought it would. 70 MPH still shows me roughly 2100 RPM with my 3.08 gears. I am pretty sure that's about 100 RPM higher than with the lockup! not bad at all...

lock up only occors in 3-4 gear. you can make a manual switch by simply applying power to the tcc wire in the 4 pin conn. in the 700r4. should be about 2-400 rpm diff. between lockup and non. it wont hurt anythig but your wallet in extra gas mileage. now I have a lock up stall conv. so Im making a switch. just flip the switch on when on the freeway and off when you get off the freeway.

any idea which wire is the tcc wire on that cluster? (color wise)
I've been without a lockup for a long time but I know that I should probably rig up a switch to save myself some $$ in gas
I've also heard that locking up the TC in 3rd is good for almost .10 in the 1/4, thats coming from a TTA guy so it might have something to do w/ the turbo but I'm not sure
