How do you Break in a Motor?

Hi guys,

if you have been reading about my little project car than you know i got the car going now basically.

Mr. Sanborn said i need to put like 50 miles on the motor before i put her to sleep for the winter up here in vermont.... he said to load the motor but keep the RPM's below 2,000 for the first 50 miles.

So how do you break in a motor?

I have never done this before..

Mr. Sanborn said the MOTOR needs to be under load, not idled.

can you guys give me some advice.

Drive it. It would not be good to hold the brake down and keep the engine in gear so I suggest you drive it for a few days. Take it to some lonely roads where you can get the engine to run. City driving is not advisable but highway driving is.

i just put a new bb in my burb last year and basicly you just drive it normally, the guy that built the motor told me not to go over 4000rpm.
just take it out for an after noon, injoy it,watch your gauges.
take it trough some hills after you get some miles on it and juice it a bit to seat your rings.

Break the cam in as per recommended specifications. Change the oil and filter. Drive it like normal for 500 miles. Change the oil and filter. Drive it like normal after that.

What would happen if you DID do some red lining before the 500 mile mark?
